“You can say that again,” she said, smiling faintly.
“But I need you to know that the summoning you performed should have brought four of us to you. We were sworn to protect you from those who might do you harm, and we agreed to become your bond mates to do that. As your bond mates, we would prize you above everything else, protecting you even if that meant losing our lives.”
“Why? Why me? I’m a nobody.”
“No, Emmy, you’re not. We don’t know everything, but if the King of the Underworld orders the protection of an unborn child, youmustbe important.”
Her face went incredibly pale. Oh, fuck. She was going to pass out. I’d given her too much information too fast. I was such a brute.
Her eyes found mine and they lost some of their sharp focus. Her breathing sky-rocketed and her hand covered her mouth. She stood on shaky legs but before I could reach her, she crumpled, falling towards the ground like a stone.
Fuck. This was not going well.
