“I’m not trying to,” I breathed.

“Nah,” he said, sliding his hand down my stomach and circling his thumb over my clit with precision. “I just want you to feel. Let me take care of the rest.” I moaned against the tile. My knees nearly buckled.

“Khalil, I can’t”

“Uh uh,” he whispered, his lips brushing the shell of my ear. “Stay with me, Lily-girl. I know you not ready to tap out now.” I heard a knock at the front door, followed by Karter’s barking.

“Fuck, it’s Lynn,” I panted.

“Oh shit, you got to go let her in, huh?” he asked, his voice lazy and amused while continuing to bury himself deep inside me. “I need you to let that shit go on me first. You’ll do that for me?” He pounded deeper, left trails of kisses along my shoulder, neck, and temples. Karter continued barking. Lynn continued knocking. Khalil continued stroking the fire inside of me with the same control he used in the boardroom.

“Come on, Kelly,” he taunted. “You can’t leave your girl out there like that.”

I couldn’t think. Let alone reply.

My phone started ringing on my nightstand. Karter scratched at the bathroom door. It was all too much. Khalilpulled out, and suddenly I wished I’d listened the first time and came already.

“Wait” I whined, feeling empty and pissed. I didn’t have to wait long to feel him again. Khalil turned me to face him, then picked me up, bracing my back against the shower wall, my legs gripped in the crooks of his arms.

He continued his assault on my pussy with long, languid strokes, filling every inch. He moved like he had time. Like I was the only thing that mattered. His mouth covered mine, threatening to suck the soul out of me. The tingling started in my toes, combed up my thighs, coiled tight in my belly. Khalil matched his strokes to Lynn’s knocks on the door. I counted fifteen before I was tossed over the edge, pussy clenching, moaning into his mouth.

“Fuck, fuck, fuck,” I cried, biting his shoulder, legs shaking as I came hard around him.

“Yeah, that’s it,” he murmured. “Just like that. I told you you could do it.” His rhythm turned frantic, each thrust deeper, more purposeful, until he broke too, groaning into my neck as his release spilled between us. When he came down, we fought to catch our breath, then ended with a laugh.

“Finish showering. I’ll go let her in,” he commanded, leaving me wobbly-legged and knocked-kneed in the shower spray.

By the time I left the bathroom, Khalil was feeding Karter and Lynn was on the couch, one brow raised and a glass of wine in her hand. Khalil walked into the bedroom then continued showering, whistling like he hadn’t just rearranged my organs and had me begging for it.

“You good?” she asked, scooting over. “In fact, I already know the answer. You walking out here with a limp, your skin glowing. Yeah, you’re good.”

I tried to fight the smile tugging at my mouth as I sank into the couch beside her. “You’re annoying.”

“Mmhm. And you’re in love. Down bad.” I grabbed her wine and took a sip. She grinned. “And we’re not denying it?”

I shrugged. “What’s the point? That’s my man.”

“Not my man, my man, my man.” She giggled. “It’s good to see you like this. Not just post-dick glowing. From this dreamy smile pasted on your face, I’m assuming ten out of ten. But…It’s nice seeing you step into your softness.”

“That’s how he makes me feel,” I admitted. “Like I’m not carrying it alone. It’s always been like that, I was just too stubborn to accept it.”

“That part,” she whispered, leaning her head back on the couch. “Not the feeling of not being safe. Just having that person who matches your energy. Brings out the best in you.” We sat in silence for a bit. “I’m trying this new thing. Ever since the firm let me go, I’ve been changing my mindset. What’s for me is for me. The man of my dreams is going to walk into my life out of nowhere. I promise I’ll dive headfirst.”

I side-eyed her. “Lynn, you can’t manifest your way out of capitalism and fuck boys.”

She held up a finger. “Yes the hell I can. I tell myself everything works out for me, even when I have zero evidence.”

“So, you manifested being let go?” I quizzed, trying not to roll my eyes.

“I wasn’t clear enough. I said I was going to leave that job. I should’ve added it wouldn’t happen until I secured another one.” She cackled at the end.

We talked about her job search, how tired we both were of pretending to be okay all the time, and how the soft life wasn’t soft at all. Khalil came out of the bathroom, clean and smug in a hoodie, dapping up Karter like they were cousins. He walked over to where I sat on the couch, and leaned in.

“Told sis I’d meet up with her and Toya,” he said. “You need anything?”

“Oh,” Lynn replied. “You’re going to leave us unsupervised? I’d hate for the coven to put a spell on you.”

“I trust y’all,” he said, never taking his eyes off me. He kissed my temple, making me blush. “No tequila shots, Lynn. My baby need her rest.”
