Cammy
Istepped right backinto it, didn’t I? Ice’s room was the other end of the hall, but I caught Stitch’s question, because he practically yelled it at his sister.
She folded her arms and glared at him.
“So what if I didn’t?”
“Jesus, who the fuck is it? Which one of these fuckers has been creeping around you? I’ll fucking kill him.”
Elise let out a frustrated screech, and shoved Stitch back a step.
“It’s none of your business, Seth! You can’t keep doing this! I’m a grown woman, and I’m allowed to have a life. You can’t dictate what I can and can’t do. And you can’t choose who I love! It’s my decision.”
I stepped between them, before he could snap back at her.
“Okay, let’s calm this down. Stitch, go and do whatever you were doing. I’ll get Elise a lovely cuppa and make sure she’s okay.”
“Of course I’m okay. Why does everyone assume I don’t know my own mind? I’m not an idiot. I’m not some naïve child! I’m… I’m going home. For the record, though, Seth, I slept in a spare room. I got tired as the party dragged on, and I found the nearest room with a damn chair in it, and slept there.”
Stitch opened his mouth again, and I elbowed him in the chest.
“No, Stitch.” I ignored his glare and turned to Elise again.
“Elise, are you sure you don’t want that cuppa before you go?”
She shook her head. “I only wish I didn’t sleep alone, but you’ve succeeded in making everyone in this place too scared to even fucking talk to me, so thanks for that. It’s just another place where I don’t belong, and I don’t fit in.” She turned and headed back down the hall, towards the stairs.
“You have to stop being so overbearing, Stitch. She’s hurting, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s because she’s fallen for someone who won’t even give her a chance. Because. Of. You.”
Honestly, he looked like he’d been punched.
“I’ve never wanted this for her. I can’t help being ‘overbearing’ as you put it. She’s got plans, babe, and none of them include being a biker’s old lady, and languishing here in this dive.”
Oh wow.“Thanks. You couldn’t have made that any clearer, huh? Languishing here in this dive is good enough for me, and Lissa, and the other perfectly capable, strong, fucking intelligent women, but somehow not for your sister. You know, I thought your head lived up your ass just because of what you were going through when we met, but now I’m starting to wonder if that’s just who you are.”
I dodged his attempts to catch my arm, and walked away from him, taking the same route as Elise, and heading down the stairs. When I reached the door to the outside, I almost ran into Elise, who was loitering there, looking as frustrated as I felt.
“I’m not going back up there,” she hissed instantly.
“Neither am I. I’m going home, screw all of them.” I stared at her for a moment. “You wanna come with?”
She nodded, casting a longing glance back across the car park, where I could see Has-Been and Ryder talking or arguing. It was hard to tell from here, but I knew them well enough to recognise them on sight now.
“He’s had a bit of a shock this morning, babe. He’ll need a bit of time.”
I unlocked my car, and gestured at Elise to get in, as I slid into the driving seat. It felt strange to be back in my car, and without Stitch by my side. My husband. My god. I was married and I’d just walked away from him without even discussing things properly.
“Are we going? I don’t really want Seth finding us out here. I’m too mad at him right now.”
I started the car, and headed for the gate.
“Yeah, he needs to cool down a bit.”
“Did he upset you too?”
Did he? I wasn’t dumb enough to think he actually meant to insult me when he said that, but he needed time to think about everything.
The prospects at the gate greeted us by name, and waved us off cheerily.
