Screw this. It would be the last time she treated me so dismissively.
“Well, you’re about to be busier, because I quit.”
Her head shot up, and she pushed up from her desk with those weedy little fucking arms of hers.
“Excuse me?”
“Sadly you’re inexcusable, and you should really work on fixing that. I don’t want to work for a person like you anymore, so I have a new job, and I quit.”
“You’ll have to work notice.”
“Remember all that leave you wouldn’t let me take, because the business is more important? Consider me on leave until my final day. I think if you checkmy contract, you’ll see you can’t stop me.”
She slammed a puny fist on the desk.
“I won’t permit you to just walk all over me like this! I’m your boss.”
I leaned on the doorframe, looking her up and down, and loving my newfound sense of power, now that I didn’t have to just take every asshole comment from her.
“Bitch, consider yourself already walked all over. I already put my holiday form in, and you approved it this morning, so my notice period is covered. Wow, the one time you didn’t reject my holiday. That must just be eating you up right now. Bye.”
“Get back here!”
Eat shit, lady, I’m done. I’d already packed up my few possessions I’d kept here, so I just grabbed the box and kept walking. From there, I hopped in my little car, and drove straight to the address Lissa had given me. There was no sign up yet, but I could see her through the front windows, so I parked up outside since there were no yellow lines, and rushed in to see her.
She was smoothing polish over a shiny reception desk, and gave me a huge grin when I walked in.
“Yes! I’m so glad you’re joining me, babe. I didn’t want to do this without you!”
I dumped my box on the floor, and hurried over to give her a hug.
“That place was awful without you, but oh my god, wait until I tell you how I quit. She was spitting feathers!”
Lissa nodded at me to follow her, and we went through the small main room and into a kitchen with a small dining area.
“This is nice.”
She tucked away the polish and cloth.
“When did you resign?”
I grinned, glancing at my watch.
“Uh… eleven minutes ago.”
“What?”
I shrugged, pointing to the kettle. “We need coffee, babe.” She nodded, and started making some.
“What do you mean you literally just quit?”
“Put in a holiday request this morning, thinking she’d reject it as usual, and I’d use it as a ‘I hate you and I quit’ moment, but the dumb bitch actually approved it. So I pointed out that she’d approved my notice period as holiday, and I walked. God, I hate that bitch. She really had it coming.”
Lissa’s mouth had dropped open, and I was amazed I could still shock her. Wasn’t she shacked up with a foul-mouthed biker now? In a biker clubhouse full of other foul-mouthed bikers? It sounded like heaven to me, but she’d always been a little more reserved than me, and I’d never have expected her to go for a man who was more my type than hers.
“So we won’t be open for a few days yet, is that okay? The club is funding the startup of the business, but then I’ll take paying clients to cover the running of the place, but the bikers will have appointments whenever they need to. A few of them have some serious stuff going on right now.”
I could only imagine. “Is it all rehab type stuff, or are we branching into all areas?”
