“I don’t care about him. I care about that cunt right there.” I pointed, and he growled under his breath.

“Yeah, I’ve got a beef with him too, but they’re all to blame.”

“Hence why they’re all weakened. We’ll pick them off one by one, and save him ’til last. Let him see the carnage we caused, because of him.”

“Let him witness their deaths, before we kill him? Yeah, that’s fucking poetic. Uh oh… looks like we have a few more sober ones.”

He pointed, and I watched, as another of the fucking Phoenix fuckers dragged another of the women toward the building housing that fucker Grease’s office.

“Great. You’ve got plenty of ammo, right?” My sidekick patted his various pockets, and checked his gun, smirking at me.

“Fuck yeah. And with that jammer going, they’re not getting a call out for help. I’d recommend the other two monitor the gate for anyone trying to get out. No survivors, right?”

“Damn straight. They’ll fucking regret what they did to us.”

Cammy

Istill hadn’t heardwhere Stitch was, and it was terrifying me, because my man, my fucking everything, was out there somewhere, and I needed him beside me. I’d almost lost him before, and we’d been so sure we had no future, and now there was no way I was letting it slip away from us, without a fight.

I’d just reached the door to go looking for him, when Ryder barged back inside, absolutely reeking of beer and looking like a drowned rat. I gagged and backed up, as the odour wafted right at me, and he lifted a hand.

“Sorry, Cammy. We disabled the kegs, though. Nobody’s getting any more from them. I mean, unless they wanna get on their knees and lick it off the fucking ground.”

I glanced at the doorway again, waiting for Ice to reappear, but he didn’t.

“Ice?”

“Gone for Grease’s safe, and that satphone. Where the fuck’s Tori?” He carefully moved me aside, and started checking around the hallway, and adjoining rooms, for his wife, before I could stop him.

He paused briefly by Lissa, crouching down to check on her. She offered him a beatific smile, and lifted her hands. “So much glitter!” She gasped at him, and he laughed.

“At least someone’s enjoying this.” He turned back to face me. “Where’s my old lady?”

I groaned. “She ran back out of here to find something. Some idea she had.”

Tori came barrelling back through the door then, brandishing the last thing I expected to see.

“Oh that’s fucking perfect, baby, get over here.” Ryder took it from her, ignoring her grumbles, and called out to Grease to keep away from the door, before he took the large axe to it. It took a few deafening blows with the thing, but finally he was through the wood, and from there, he was able to kick his way through and into Grease’s office. We both followed, to find Grease on his ass on the floor, with blood dripping down the side of his face, and a dazed look on his face.

“Took your time,” he snarked, trying to get up, but falling back down again, as he clutched his head and groaned.

“Shit.”

Ryder

Icrouched beside him, checking the wound on his head, and cursing. We could really do with a doctor right about now, but both were probably away with the fucking fairies right now.

Tori shoved past me, with a first aid kit she’d grabbed from god only knows where. She knelt beside Grease, and pressed a wad of gauze against the wound, telling him to keep it there, while she fussed around with the rest of the contents of the kit.

“Baby?”

She glared at me. “See anyone else around here who knows what to do? I’m used to having to do these things myself, you know, from before.”

The fact that the memory didn’t reduce her to a fucking crying wreck in the corner, was one of the signs that she was growing beyond her fears and torment, but the other? She just touched Grease, and she was kneeling so close that he could touch her too, not that he’d be stupid enough to even try. Not just because she was my old lady and wife, but because she was his real boss’s daughter. Still, it bugged me seeing her touching him, even as she was just mopping up blood, and patching up the wound.

“You’ll need to go to hospital, of course, but this’ll keep you from bleeding everywhere.”

“Thanks, Tori, I need to get to my satphone. Ice was headed there?” He was asking, as he tried getting to his feet, but he swayed, and would have gone right back over if we didn’t catch him.
