“Oh shit, is that what I think it is?”

“I think so. Cammy, did your water just break, babe?” I stepped over the mess and crouched beside her, and saw the sheer terror on her face.

“I think the baby’s coming. Oh god, why now? Not now, please not now! Where’s Stitch! I need him!”

“Shit, what do we do?” Tori hissed at me, watching helplessly as Cammy whined under her breath, and hunched over her rounded stomach.

“I don’t know! She needs her man though. I mean, I wouldn’t want to be giving birth without Micro beside me!”

Tori groaned, turning to watch Lissa chasing her fingers through the air, like she was playing with something only she could see, which was exactly what was going on.

“Pity she’s away with the fairies. If anyone in this room knows what to do, it’s her. She’s so fucking capable.”

I turned to stare at my discarded weapon, and sighed.

“One of us has to go find him, Tori. Can you keep her calm if I go?”

Tori cursed, catching my arm as I reached for the baseball bat.

“Don’t be ridiculous. I’m going to be the one going out there. I’m completely useless here, but you’re more… I don’t know… more likely to know what to do with her.”

I shook her grip away, because we didn’t exactly get on all that well, so her hand on me wasn’t exactly welcome.

“Why would I know? Because I’m pregnant? Trust me, I’ve got zero knowledge, but I’ll stay with her, if you think you can find Stitch without getting yourself killed out there.”

“You’re pregnant?”

“A little help here!” Cammy practically screeched at us, making Lissa giggle in her messed up state. I wanted to slap her, to bring her back to us, because I needed help. I couldn’t help a woman in the midst of labour. I might want a baby, but I hadn’t exactly read up on what to do, because I didn’t want to jinx us.

“Go. Hurry though, because I’m hoping Stitch will know how to help her. I’m winging it here.”

“This is so… comforting… you bitches,” Cammy hissed, clutching her stomach and groaning.

“Be safe!” I called after Tori, as she grabbed her axe and ran from the room. I could only pray like hell that she didn’t get hurt out there, because I had a feeling Ryder would lose his mind if she did.

I crouched beside Cammy once more, and took one of her hands.

“Are you having contractions?”

“No, I’m watching the latest episode ofSchitts Creek.”

I did my best not to snap right back at her, because I knew she was scared, and probably in pain.

“Cammy, I don’t know what to do here, but I’m trying, so please, just see me as a friend for the moment. Can you do that?”

Her pained eyes met mine and she frowned. “I do see you as a friend. I’m just terrified, Sophie. I don’t know if things are happening the way they should, and the last place I want to have our child is in this dingy little office, with that chaos going on out there.”

She bit her trembling lip and blinked back tears. “It was all planned. We’d be in a hospital room, me and Stitch, and he’d be coaxing me through all the pain and horror, and the yuckystuff. He’s so unflappable. I need his calm right now. He’s my rock. My stability. Without him here, I’m just freaking out. Ow… it’s happening again…” she hissed through her teeth and gripped her stomach, while I figured, at the very least, I should time things. What else could I do? I’d seen this stuff on TV, I mean, who hasn’t, but this was real life. And we were in a scary situation right now, with so few people able to help us.

Lissa giggled and I turned to yell at her.

“Will you fucking snap out of it? I need your help!” Her dazed eyes met mine, and she smiled happily.

“So many sparkly things. Your eyes are like sapphires.”

Jesus Christ. Send me someone sane, please.
