Once upstairs, I enter my office to find Taegan at my desk. I close the door behind me and go to flop down on the couch. My thoughts go to Logan and Brooklyn. This is where they usually sit when they stop by to check on me.
It feels like it’s been forever since Logan has been here. So much has changed in the last year. I can’t help but feel like this is only the beginning.
“What’s on yer mind, Irish?” Taegan asks as I sit lost in my thoughts.
I smile at the nickname she uses for me. I once asked why and she told me it’s so I remember who I am, so I never allow what happened all those years ago to happen again.
“Nothing. What’s going on with you? What are you doing up here?”
Taegan has not only become my closest friend, but she’s also become like a part of the family—another big sister. When Itook over this place, she became my personal assistant. She has stepped in a lot with Logan gone.
We all trust her. However, she understands Kate and Connie wouldn’t hesitate to make her disappear if she ever crossed us—my best friend or not.
“I finished the spreadsheets and sent them over to Jamie. Connie called looking for ya. She mentioned ya helping with the clubs. I offered to help out where I could. I’m on party-girl duty,” she says and wiggles her brows.
I groan. Connie took off this morning to join Kate. I’ll be stepping in to help cover for her and give my brothers a hand where they need me. I’m grateful for any help I can get. Once again, Taegan is a lifesaver.
“Grand. I hate doing that shit.”
Taegan laughs. She already knows how much I hate it when I’m asked to handle the task. It’s annoying.
Connie and Brooklyn like to hire fresh-faced girls to attend the clubs. Not the bottle-service girls, but girls who party with the patrons and keep them all happy and partying.
“I don’t know why ya hate it so much. Maybe ya’ll find a nice girl yer willing to date. Then ya won’t be so grumpy.”
“You’re my best friend, not my matchmaker. Mind your business.”
“Ya don’t have to be mean. I worry about ya. What are ya going to do if ya go back home and she’s not there? All this time ya’ve been wasting?—”
“Don’t.” I cut her off. “I’m going to find her. That’s the only option.”
She sighs. “Fine. Yer love life is none of my business. How was Cali?”
I furrow my brows as the girl from that bar comes to mind. I haven’t been able to shake her from my mind. A part of mewishes I had followed her out or tried harder to find her after the fight.
Scrubbing my hand over my face, I then blow out a long breath. That wasn’t Ciara and I would have only been disappointed. My focus needs to be on the tournaments so I can head home, where she can find me.
“It didn’t work out for Felix like he wanted,” I reply.
“She said no?” Taegan asks with a look of confusion on her face.
She knows Kaye. We all saw how much she’s in love with Felix. If she had said no, that would have been a shock to us all.
“No, it’s a long story. He never got to ask.”
“Oh, I’m sorry to hear that. How was our little buddy?”
“Dae-Dae is good.”
A knock comes at the office door and Taegan groans and rolls her eyes. We both already know who it is. I should have known Cadhla wasn’t going to catch a hint.
“Just toss the bitch already,” Taegan mutters under her breath.
“I’ll be focused on making that happen soon.”
“Grand. I don’t do stupid well and she’s a fucking melter if I ever saw one. Pure eejit.”
I stifle a laugh and shake my head. “You want to order us some lunch? It’s my treat.”
