“I was not!”
She totally was. But she wasn’t going to admit it. That would be crazy. Never admit when you broke the rules.
“You were supposed to keep a distance from the protest, not go running off into the middle of the crowd. Without your bodyguards.”
“You deserve the spanking you’re gonna get,” Gable told her.
“Hey! That’s not nice. I don’t deserve a spanking.”
She probably did. She had broken the rules and Travis was going to be furious.
Monkey bollocks.
“What would it take to keep this between the three of us?” she asked.
Gable made a scoffing noise. “There’s nothing. I like my job. And I enjoy my balls being attached to my body.”
“Me too,” Tyler said as his phone rang. “I’m very attached to my balls. Some say they’re my best feature.”
Eww. That’s more than she needed to know.
She ignored the call he took as she settled back and tried to think of ways to keep this from Travis.
“Caren?”
She turned to look at Tyler. Why did he sound strange? And he looked tense. “What is it?”
“That was Travis. We have to go to the office to meet with him.”
“Why?” she asked worriedly.
“Because there’s an FBI agent and someone from Interpol there and they want to talk to you.”
Travis wasn’t happy.
He didn’t like being blindsided by people. He didn’t like being told what to do. And he really didn’t like being told what to do with Caren.
However, he was also aware that he couldn’t keep the FBI and Interpol away from her.
Still, when she walked into the office, he immediately got her attention, crooking a finger at her.
She frowned at him but immediately made her way to him, soothing something inside him.
He dragged her onto his lap. Unprofessional, but he didn’t give a fuck.
“You want us to stay?” Tyler asked.
“Gable, you go. Tyler, can you wait outside?”
“Sure. You okay, Alexa?” Tyler asked.
“Hunky-dory. These guys want to recruit me. Pretty sure they can’t pay me as much as Travis does, though. And I don’t know if the guys at Interpol will be as sexy as you guys.”
Miranda Waterford rolled her eyes. That was the name of the woman from Interpol. Charles McCallum was the FBI agent.
He hated them both on principle.
“Ms. Stanford, I’m Miranda Waterford, I’m with Interpol. I’m currently based in Washington DC. This is Charles McCallum, with the FBI. He’s also based in Washington. We’re here to talk to you about a man you know as Aadan Joseph.”
