I nodded. “Same dad, different mums.”
“I looked up your dad on the way over. He’s a total silver fox, which is no surprise because both you and your brother are freaking hot.” She waggled her eyebrows. “Especiallyyour brother.”
I scrunched up my nose. “Gross. Besides, he’s taken now. By my best friend apparently.”
That detail seemed to interest Lana. “Parker, right? The girl Ryan was seeing for a while.”
“That’s the one. Tanner and Parker are cute together,” I admitted. “I’ve never seen my brother so... monogamous.”
It was nice talking about Tanner without hiding the details of who he was to me. That had been the worst part of all the lies. I’d never been ashamed of my brother. He’d never been a secret to me.
“Levi mentioned he might be heading to Texas with Will,” Grace said.
That was the latest rumour. One Tanner had spoken about in-depth with me. He was leaning towards Texas more and more each day. He likely wouldn’t have as smooth a run as Will to the league. It might mean a year in the Bobcat’s farm team, or maybe even a bit longer. But that was a better scenario than him miserably giving up his dream and praying he had punished dad enough.
Lana’s eyebrows lowered. “How awkward would it be going to his games if Will was playing?”
Grace interjected. “Not awkward at all. Because by that point, Will and Riley will be back together. Right?”
I really hoped so.
I eagerly checked my phone, but there was no reply from Beth.
Nowthere was definitely nothing I could do because the arena lights had just dimmed. The game was about to begin.
CHAPTER SEVENTY-ONE
Hyped me the fuck up
WILL
I had my AirPods in, blocking out the chaos. I was full of excited energy and couldn’t wait to translate that out there.
I sat in front of my stall, bouncing my knees. I was geared up and ready to go. Around me others were still getting their gear in place, but I was set. I was eager to hit the ice.
Levi leant forward, securing his skates. It was only when he glared at me that I realised he’d said something.
I slipped out my headphones. “Sorry. What did you say?”
“I asked if you were ready.”
“Always. Are you?”
“You know it.” He grinned. “Hughesy is here. I’ve got to put a show on for her.”
I chuckled. “Uh-huh.”
“She’s sitting with Lana and Riley.”
That shook me. “Riley’s here?”
Levi looked surprised. “You still haven’t spoken to her?”
I was planning to. I’d intended to call her when I left the arena yesterday afternoon, but my phone had died. By the time I’d arrived home, the guys had been ordering dinner and I’d ended up watching an NHL game with them on the couch. Today had been a write off because I knew she was in classes all day, and before I knew it the guys were lining up by my truck this afternoon to head out for our pre-game feed.
Things had changed though now I knew she was watching. It made me feel jittery. In a good way.
I faced Levi. “Can I ask you something?”
