I momentarily lowered my gaze to meet Riley’s. Coach had been trying, albeit he did it in an awkward way, but that was as good as it was going to get.
Having only known him as a confident figure in the hockey world, witnessing his failed attempts to build a relationship with his kids had been a shock to the norm.
I’d purposely done my best to differentiate the two worlds. When I was at the barn, he was the Coach I’d always known and respected. Any other time, he was the man who’d screwed over my girl and had a lot of grovelling to do.
“When did you talk to dad?” Riley questioned.
“He drove up to Allentown yesterday to get lunch.” Tanner sighed. “To be honest, it actually wasn’t horrible. We talked a bit about the Bobcats, and he gave me some decent advice. Who knows, maybe he’s not a total asshole.”
Riley laughed. “Just eighty-percent asshole?”
“Eighty-five-percent at least.”
Parker paused the movie. “If you two want to talk, go upstairs.”
“No way,” Tanner quickly retorted. “I’m not going up there by myself.”
“Then stop talking.”
“We’re whispering.”
“Like Big Foot.” Parker shook her head in disbelief. “You’re seriously pathetic, Tanner. Has your dick fallen off?”
Tanner’s eyes glossed over at that as he gestured to his sweats. “Reach in babe and I’ll prove it hasn’t.”
Riley bolted upright. “Rule two-hundred-and-eighty-six. No hand stuff on the couch when I’m in the room.”
Each time Parker and Tanner crossed a line that made Riley squirm, she’d throw down a new rule. Apparently we were up to two-hundred-and-eighty-six now.
It went both ways. Tanner had managed to reach forty-two for us. Turns out he didn’t appreciate me declining his offer of eggs after mentioning I’d already had his sister for breakfast.
What could I say, it was my favourite fucking meal.
Riley and I tried dividing our time evenly between her place and mine. Between Tanner and Parker here, and Grace and the guys at home, it wasn’t often we got complete alone time.
Though every now and then the stars would align and Parker would head to Allentown to spend the night at Tanner’s place. On those occasions, I made sure to fuck Riley so hard she screamed the roof down.
Sharing a house was something we were going to have to get used to. After graduation, Tanner was making the move to Texas too. The Bobcats were officially interested. And though he couldn’t make it formal until after we finished college, it was practically a signed deal.
He was set to move into the shared house with me. Riley and Parker had found a place to rent not far from us. This group dynamic was about to cross state lines.
Had someone told me I’d be gearing up to spend next year with Tanner Holbeck, I would’ve laughed in their face. Now I was looking forward to that idea almost as much as I was looking forward to starting the season.
Not having Levi, Tripp and Ryan around would suck. But Riley, Tanner and Parker were a fair consolation.
Parker restarted the movie, which was starting to get pretty creepy. When a random hand snaked around the throat of the main character, I jumped, bouncing Riley in my lap. Her eyes widened in surprise before falling to my semi that was now a full hard on.
She blinked innocently. “Hey Will, can you please pass that blanket? I’m cold.”
I fucking wasn’t. I was burning up.
Logic told me not to give her the blanket, but it’s like my dick had hands of its own. I threw the blanket to her, which she immediately tugged over her whole body. Including her head and my groin.
I cautiously glanced at Tanner, who was back to hiding beneath a pillow. This was dumb. This was dumb. This was dumb. And holy hell, her tongue was already on my dick. She’d made quick work of that.
Her warmth enveloped me, her mouth gripping me like a vice. I threw my head back, my throat wobbling as I swallowed.
Riley was a minx. One I’d never have my full fix of. We’d ticked off so many places this last month. Her kitchen counter. My kitchen counter. My car. Tripp’s car when he boxed me in and told me to take his rather than move it, the lazy idiot.
