“So, what do you say after this we go to the Shed, rent a room, and you do me?” Ram leaned against an old warehouse edifice, knee bent, a boot on the brick siding.

“You’re charming my pants off.”

“That’s what I’m trying to do, Sabine. Just thinking about your long legs wrapped around my waist while I plunge into you makes my dick hard. Leave on the boots.”

Impatient after weeks of staking out the Covenkirk jump site on the north side of town, Ram flirted with Sabine. She held tough, unimpressed. Of course, he didn’t expect her to give in, but assholishness passed the time.

“Despite your startling good looks along with your clothes savvy, I’m gonna decline. Again. Besides, it’s a breed thing, satyr. Everybody gives you a hard-on. Has anyone ever fallen for your dumbass lines?”

Ram flipped his blade over and under his fingers. “Often enough.”

“Scath needs sexual harassment laws like Earthers have. Maybe then you’d shut the hell up. Somehow I doubt it, though.”

“I’m imagining us in bed. You’re telling me I’ve got the biggest sex toy you’ve ever seen.”

“No, Ram. I’m saying you’re the biggest prick I’ve ever seen. That’s not the same thing.”

“So, you do like my big prick.”

Sabine chuckled.

“You’re right. I’m a product of my genes. What can I say? What do you want to talk about, other than how you have the hots for me?”

“Ram, in another minute, I’m going to take this Arkansas toothpick and run it up your ass.” Sabine slipped her dagger out, pointing it at him.

“Now who’s sweet talkin’, doll?” A deep laugh erupted from his chest.

Sabine raised her hand, motioning for Ram to quiet. The air shimmered. The portal was active. She stepped nearer the distorted haze.

Ram dropped his foot off the wall and straightened. All business, he held out his dirk.

A shifter, in human form, appeared out of the fog. Draped across his arms was a human female, out cold.

In an instant, Sabine was behind him with her blade pressed to his neck. “One move and you’re dog meat.”

Ram didn’t need to read the guy’s aura. His great sniffer picked up the stench of wolf.

The shifter dropped the Earther. Ram rushed to her. He knelt on the ground and when he felt the female’s cold, clammy skin, he snarled, “What’s wrong with her?”

“Nothin’. She’s just drugged.” The guy whimpered, pressing fists to his ears. “Oh, shit. Oh, shit. I’m screwed.” When he twitched, Sabine’s blade nicked his skin. “Oh my God. I’m bleeding.”

The nymph knocked his hands away from the cut. “Settle down or you’ll get sliced worse.”

Ram’s jaw clenched until his uppers ground against his lowers. “What did you give her?”

“Just a few tootsies. That’s all. She’ll come out of it soon. She’ll be just fine. It’s me who’s fucked.” His eyes darted everywhere, spinning like a wheel of fortune.

“What are you on?” asked Ram.

“Nothin’. I’m just naturally nervous.”

“Anybody else coming through the portal? And if you lie to me, you’ll be dead faster than you can say ‘Doggie want a bone.’” To make her point, Sabine poked his skin once more.

“No one else is comin’. I’m alone.”

“Where were you going?” Ram cradled the female’s head in his lap, gentle strokes along her temples.
