“Not a compliment.” Kole pushed the Firebrand aside to step through the doorway, thundering along the corridor toward Skyler’s office. Sabine followed, tapping the hilt of her straight-bladed Arkansas toothpick which hung from her hip. Tyr shook his hands, loosening them, prepared to cast spells if he ran into trouble. Checking her battle axe tucked into her belt, Galena brought up the rear.
The heavily armed warriors exploded through the office door and past the reception area, their boots thudding on the tiles. Anna spun around, eyes wide. The Firebrands fanned out behind their commander instantly, charging the air with danger. The admin assistant’s hand flew to her mouth, too late to stifle the scream. When she recognized Kole, her breath came out as apfftwhile her shoulders relaxed.
Clicking heels brought Laurie on a run from the copy room. “Holy shit.” She sized up the kitted-out Scion Firebrands. “Uh-oh. Our agents are about to come through the door. I pushed the panic button. Sorry, guys. Didn’t know it was you.”
“Got ’em, Comm.” Chay rushed back into the corridor to head off the human security force.
Skyler flung open her office door, a gun in one hand, a cellphone to her ear in the other. “What the hell? Wait a minute, Agent Markham.” She glared when she saw Kole. “Stand down. It’s the demon Firebrand Commander.”
She disconnected from the call, sliding the phone into a jacket pocket. “Kole, I mean, Commander, is there a problem?”
“Hell, yes, there’s a problem.” He barreled toward Skyler. In two long strides, he grabbed her upper arm, roughly pivoted her around, and marched her back into her office.
Bam.
The room shook when he slammed the door.

Skylershook her arm loose from Kole’s grip. “What the hell? You storm in here like an invading army. These are my offices. You have no right. What’s going on?”
Get mad.He walked out on me. Wham-bam. No thank-you-ma’am. Nonetheless, her betraying heart had pounded against her chest the minute she spotted the fire-gold eyes and hard-muscled frame barreling toward her, looking every bit the barbarian he was.
“You need to sit. Hell, I gotta sit.” Kole flopped onto the sofa, legs spread out and head back. “Sit, I said.”
Skyler hung over him with her arms crossed. Though he patted the cushion alongside him, she ignored the invitation. Instead, she slipped into her office chair. Propped up by her elbows on the desk, she rested her chin in the palms of her hands. The best move was to stay far away from the demon with his appealing body. “Ready. Now what? Have your say. Afterward, get out of here unless… Never mind.”
One corner of his mouth curled higher than the other in his sexier-than-hell grin. “Not happening, Frisca. Your life is about to get more interesting.”
“How much more interesting can it get? I’ve been pushed into the path of an oncoming train, had Aeternals raid my office, almost mated a Yeti, been stuck on Darque with you, survived harpies and Dermott, and held at gunpoint by my trusted legal assistant. Did I leave anything out?”
The cocky, arrogant smile returned to his lips. “Mind-blowing sex with an irresistible demon.”
Skyler arched a cold brow. “Hmph. You mean the one who couldn’t wait to run from my bed?”
“What? I can explain when we have time, Frisca.”
“I have no interest in your excuses.” Kole eyed her rising and falling chest with definite interest. His fascination with her breasts made her hot. Heat crawled from the toes which peeked out of her new Gucci shoes to her cheeks. And she never blushed. Never. Except around Kole. Surely, she could ignore thoughts of sex for the moment despite the demon’s oxygen-sucking presence.
Kole shook his head as if to clear it before he lifted his eyes to hers. “Your blood test came back.”
Skyler stiffened her spine.
“Because you said you knew your lineage, some idiot put your sample on the slow road.”
“What are you saying?”
“You are one.”
“One what? Descendant?”
Kole nodded.
“Not possible.”
“Obviously, it is possible.”
“Are you saying Abrahm Maxwell was a demon and a warlock?”
