Chaybolted to Margo to disarm her, grabbing her around the waist, lifting her, her legs scissoring, her feet contacting his shins. Over and over. He held on tight despite her kicks and high-pitched screams.
“Hey, Red. Stop.” He shifted her weight so she was slung along his hip. Kinda horizontal-like.
“Let me go.” She pounded her fists, hitting Chay’s groin.
“Okay.” He set her bare soles back onto the floor but constrained her, his arms wrapped around her, crushing her breasts. “Be gentle, Red. My balls are precious. There. Better. Isn’t it?”
“Let me go, you pervert.” Margo continued her useless struggle.
Chay put her in the chair. He dropped to his knees in front of her where he plastered her arms at her side. His eyes slid up her body. Down her body. Freckles dotted her creamy light skin. She wasn’t tall, but she had curves in all the places he liked. Her red hair was wild, as if she’d just crawled out of bed after a night of sex. He suspected she was untamed like her mane, a lot of energy packed into a small package.
The healer returned to Margo, syringe in hand, shouting above the screams for help. “I have to touch her. It’s the only way I can cast a more powerful spell. This human is resistant.”
While Chay held a squiggling, yelling Margo, the healer rested a palm on her shoulder. “You will calm so I may take a blood sample. It’s for your own good.”
Margo shivered, slumping forward into Chay’s arms, her cheek rubbing against his chest. She moaned.
Her sexy sounds were doing a number on his libido. He pictured a bed. Both of them naked.Wait. He was serious about Anjeli. How could he want to tango with Red?
The healer drew blood, securing the sample in the case. “I don’t like her reaction to my first spells. They should have worked on a human. I had to give her a pretty heavy dose this last time. I hope she’s all right.”
“What could go wrong?” Chay heard the distress in his own voice.
“A million things. After we leave, she could decide to take a bath, fall asleep, and drown. She could trip going down the steps. She could have a heart attack from being spelled three times. She could accidentally slice herself with the butcher knife she wanted to use on us…”
“I get it.” Chay stroked the comatose Margo’s back. “Okay. I’ll stay behind for a while. You two hot-foot the sample to our lab.”
“Aren’t you sweet.” Galena sent a smirk in Chay’s direction. “This isn’t a pleasure cruise we’re on here.”
“I know. I’m all business, dudette.”
“Yeah, funny business. And stop with the dudette shit. Call me Galena or don’t call me anything. Listen, she better be just fine when you leave. No hickeys, no bruised lips, no trouble walking in the morning. You get my meaning, stud?”
“I get it. Besides, I’m as good as mated to Anjeli.”
“You don’t act as good as mated.” Galena strode out the door in front of the healer.
Chay picked up Margo, enjoying the feel of her curly hair tickling his chin. He deposited her on the couch, fluffing pillows under her head. Then he settled on the other end, content to sit with her legs in his lap until she came out of the spell-induced stupor.
ChapterFourteen
Koleportaled from the Yeti’s forest camp to a northern tundra.
“What did you say to the elder?” Skyler slipped gloves on and tugged down a knit hat until it covered her ears.
He shook his head. “Guy talk.”
“It was about me.” She snugged the collar of her coat against her neck.
“Jump to conclusions much?”
“Go on. Have your little jokes at my expense. I deserve some ridicule. But you loved fabricating a long list of my faults. By the way, no one has ever complained about my skills in the bedroom.”
Kole bared a grin. “Care to demonstrate them?”
