“Always. We need to get to Darque, shield our own D-chips, and acquire this Uwrick, or whoever it might be. The guy isn’t working alone. Skyler Maxwell could be the target. Somebody attacked the Alliance office and killed an employee. Maybe Kole is just caught in the net somebody’s using to wipe out the chief. Big mistake. Don’t piss off Firebrands. Take on one of us, you take on all of us.”

Bounty’s voice followed a knock on the door. “Open up. I had to walk down here in these gorgeous but uncomfortable shoes. Your chips aren’t working. I’ve got news, and I’m late for my feeding unless somebody here wants me to fang him.”

Ram, Tyr, and Brak sprouted immediate bulges in their pants. Strolling inside, Bounty rested a manicured nail on her chin, lifted her brows, and studied the three males. Then she pivoted toward Rein. “Jezzi called from Spriggan Enclave. She has word of Kole and Skyler passing through.”

“Bounty, you may be busy tonight. Either use the bagged variety or take your pick from willing volunteers for dinner. I need you energized,” said Rein.

Bounty smiled at Brak. “I’m hungry for some carnal demon. This way, stud donor.”

The warrior’s eyes widened as he stumble-footed behind Kole’s executive assistant.

Tyr and Ram both muttered, “Lucky motherfucker.”

When Margo tugged on Chay’s arm, he said, “I’ll explain later, Red.”

Rein unfolded his large frame from the couch. “Thanks for the demo, Margo. Ram, I want Dax, but he’s not answering calls. Jarek needs him for a mission. The commander’s shorthanded. Locate the loner Vamp. Take Brak with you once Bounty’s had her fill. Tyr, bring me two mages. A shielder who’s powerful enough to protect our D-chips from a warlock like Uwrick and a detector who can trace the mage by following his magic. I have a good feeling about this. If we find Uwrick, I think we’ll find Kole and Chief Maxwell. Strap up, Firebrands. We’re headed to Spriggan Enclave on Darque. We’ll mobilize from the stronghold at O Dark Ugly.”

When the living room was empty again, Margo worried her lower lip. “Sounds dangerous, Chay.”

“It’s what I do, Red. Are you okay with it?”

“I love all of you. I don’t want you to change.”

Chay read the acceptance in her eyes, something he hadn’t felt since his grandfather Rahine’s death.

Rampaced in Bounty’s office, waiting.

Finally, Brak came back, zipping up his pants with a smile on his face. Right behind him, Kole’s blonde, buxom executive assistant smoothed her dress down and showed more color in her cheeks.

Dinner had obviously been satisfying for the two of them. Ram shook his head, a little jealous of his fellow Firebrand’s treat. “Let’s go, demon. We need to find Dax. Rein’s looking for him.”

Bounty snapped her eyes toward Ram. “What’s wrong?”

The satyr shrugged. “He’s not answering Rein’s calls.”

“I’ll help you look.” Bounty straightened her desk as if preparing to leave with them.

Ram and Brak exchanged glances but spoke in unison. “No way! Not a good idea.”

“Okay. Find him yourself.” She sat down, staring at the computer screen.

“Damn, Bounty. Rein will have our asses,” said Ram.

Bounty was a secretary not a fucking Firebrand. She couldn’t go on missions, even if it was just to find Dax. Why would she want to? Rein would punish the three of them if he found out. No telling what pain he would inflict. He was a vampire with warlock and incubus powers along with a barely controlled temper to boot. Besides, Dax would be pissed enough with Brak and him looking in all the sordid nooks and crannies of Scath. The last thing he would want was some gorgeous female witnessing him screw up.

“He’ll have your asses if you don’t find Dax. What’ll it be? With me or without me?”

Brak loomed over her desk. “Why would we take you with?”

Bounty flipped a long strand of blonde hair over her shoulder. “Cause I know his hiding spots.”

Dax and Bounty? Nah. She wouldn’t stoop so low.

Once Ram decided the vamps weren’t getting it on, he decided the female was just sneaky.Hell. She probably had a list of where all the Firebrands hung out when off duty. “Come on. Tell us. Besides, Rein needs you here.”

“He can do without me for a while.” She leaned into her chair, blowing on the nails of her right hand. In the other, she might as well have been squeezing their nads.
