Ram glanced at Brak. “This is a fucking terrible plan, but tag along. Where do we start?” He knew when the female bloodsucker had bested them.
“Your word first? And you can’t ever tell anyone. Not Kole. Not Rein.” Bounty glared at both males.
“Word. Now where are we headed?” Ram countered with a fast answer. He snarled, not appreciating the blackmail.
“Both of you.” Bounty didn’t move until Brak agreed also.
“Word.” Brak smiled, fingering his neck, probably remembering Bounty’s lips sucking on it. Lucky bastard.
Bounty hesitated before she spoke. “It’s called O Den’s Valhalla.”
Cute.
Ram had never been there or in any O blud den, but he had heard plenty about them. “We’re dead.”
****
Whenthe door of the lower-level room at O Den’s Valhalla busted open, Dax thought he recognized a familiar chuckle. His vampire hearing was sharp even while he was in the haze of pure bliss.
Ram tee-heed. “I’m not into males, but that is one fine ass humping the female, and I think it belongs to our Dax.”
Brak was here, too. Dax pegged his deep, thunderous voice. “Dude, dismount and unfang her neck.”
The table Dax had bent the succubus over banged against the wall in rhythm with his relentless drive into her pussy.
Brak sighed loudly as Dax pinpointed the telltale sound of a blade leaving its sheath. “I don’t look forward to pulling the buck naked, drugged, stone-cold killer off her.”
“Like we really could.” Dax noted Ram’s mutter as his dagger whispered out of its resting place. “I also don’t relish poking this dagger into afreron. He’ll likely kill us in the process. One more try. Hey, Dax. Pull your wanker out. You’ve had enough. Come along.”
Dax withdrew, releasing the female. Putting all two hundred and fifty pounds of menacing muscle behind a snarl, he faced the Firebrands. He knew his eyes were red-rimmed, glassy, and unfocused, hisfrerons’ words drifting to him through fog.
“Shit. He’s high on O crap, but he’s hung like a jacked berserker.” Ram looked a little worried.
He should.
Sounding equally impressed, Brak chimed in. “Yeah. Gotta respect stamina and pure male design.”
Dax pulled his own blade off the table, dropping into a crouch, willing to challenge the Firebrands. If only he could see them better. A feral roar arose from deep in his chest as he prepared to attack. The skin on his face was slack from the drugged blood, and his long dark hair hung like a wild stallion’s dirty, tangled mane. He’d been on a bender. How many days?Dunno. He bared his fangs.
Ram spread his thighs apart, ready to charge. “You go for his left side. I’ll take the right. Whatever you do, stay away from his chompers. Our best bet is to take him down, flip him onto his stomach, and D-chip him.”
“Ah, fuck. Get out of my way, idiots.” A loud shout preceded Bounty as she shoved the two males aside and stormed toward Dax. “Hey, big brother. Are you okay? You need to calm down and not hurt anyone. Sis is here.”
Brak and Ram froze. Probably because of Bounty’s brother-bomb. She had promised to keep their sibling state of affairs a secret. Now it was out.
Her familiar image floated to Dax from far away.
A small girl in a raggedy short dress which hung loose on her too-skinny body ran down the stairs to him, her arms outstretched as if he were the best brother in the world. Her smile was wide, her hair uncombed, but she was happy to see him. She dug into his pockets. She was looking for the cheap candy treat he always managed to bring her. It wasn’t much, but it was all he could manage. He never forgot to drop a surprise into a pocket.
She found the gift, giggled, and shouted, “Tootsie Rolls. My fave. You are the bestest brother ever.” Dax still saw her tiny sharp fangs and her adoring eyes as she smiled at him, her chin tilted. He didn’t know why she loved him, but he would never forget.
Dax shook his head, his hair whipping around him while he struggled to focus. “Bounty. Beautiful little Bounty. I’m so happy to see you.” She drifted to him as a dream.
“I’m glad to see you, too, big bro. Rein needs you. I need you.”
“Rein?”
“You’re a Scion Firebrand, Dax. Rein is your commander until Kole returns. I’m Kole’s executive assistant. Remember?”
