The Firebrand vacated the door, walking across the room to sit beside Skyler. “What else is going on?”
“I can’t stay at the stronghold.”
“It’s the safest place for you. You’ll be with other Blood Coven descendants who share a common interest. Namely, staying alive. Something else is bugging you.”
“You’re quite perceptive, but it’s nothing I will share.”
“Okay. The cold shoulder. Now, let’s keep packing. Pants, tops, nightwear, something fun in case you go out.”
The corners of Skyler’s mouth turned up slightly. “Go out? I doubt that.”
“You never know. Maybe some buff snack candy will catch your eye and ask you on a date. Bring something fun.”
The only buff snack candy I know is a stubborn ass demon who deserted me after amazing sex.
Skyler walked to the closet, sighing. Reaching in, she pulled out a simple black dress, waving it at the female now lounging on her bed.
The nymph shook her head.
Skyler gave the dress the once over, frowning. “It’s one of my favorites. Why don’t you like it?”
“Too plain. How about that one?” Sabine pointed.
“This one?” Skyler pulled out a candy-apple-red dress with a short, flirty skirt and a deep, plunging neckline. Imagining Kole’s reaction if she wore it, she pressed a splayed hand to her chest. “I bought this on a whim. I’ve never worn it, though. It’s so…”
“Sexy. Bring it along. You’ll have males panting.”
Skyler laughed.
A deep voice came from the doorway. “You should definitely bring the red dress along. You look good in the color.” Both women twisted toward the speaker. Kole leaned against the jamb.
When did he see me in… The red panties and bra.
Skyler might have been angry with him, but her heart was stupid. It thumped loudly when she thought back to their numerous bouts of hot sex.
Instead of sighing, she snapped a response. “If I had wanted your advice, I would have sought it.” In a huff, she jammed the red dress into the closet, snatched up the black one, and folded it into the suitcase. “That’s what I think of your opinion.”
Kole shrugged. “Don’t forget the black nighty or whatever you call it.”
Skyler walked to a drawer to pull out a sleek, silky negligee. “This one?”
Kole straightened from his lean. His fingers sparked while he nearly snorted smoke. “Yep.”
Sabine’s gaze pinged from one to the other.
Skyler’s fingers stroked the smooth, expensive fabric until Kole groaned. “Not a chance.” Stuffing the negligee she had worn the night of the Genesis Rite into the drawer, she said, “I prefer pajamas.” She took out her favorite plaid cotton ones, cramming them into the suitcase.
The brutish commander snarled, his sexy lips twisting up on one corner. He closed the door a little too hard.
Sabine arched her brows, studying Skyler. “Interesting. I didn’t know the commander had such an eye for women’s wear. Or is it only for what you wear?”
Skyler’s slight squint told Sabine to stifle any conclusions. She stomped to the closet where she snatched the red dress, tore it off the hanger, and packed it into another suitcase. She then opened the top drawer to seize the silky black nightgown, laying it on top of the other item.
Sabine smiled. “Thatta girl. Use the ammunition you’ve got.”
As Skyler grinned back, she grabbed a pillow off the bed and bulleted it at the smartass Firebrand.
After she straightened the duvet on her bed, Skyler tossed a few more clothes, shoes, and toiletries into the second suitcase, closing it. Opening the bedroom door, she eyed the Firebrands in her kitchen and great room. The place had never looked so tiny. “If we’re in such a damn hurry, let’s go. Somebody get my bags.”
