“Frisca.”

She blocked his way into her apartment. “I’m mad at you.”

“Not for long.” Kole picked her up, her feet dangling as he carried her into the kitchen to set her on the counter. “Besides, shouldn’t I be the one who’s pissed?”

She cocked her head.Is he kidding?“Why?”

Kole’s eyes locked onto hers. “Because you let me fuck you silly even though you have a fiancé. One you won’t be marrying, by the way. And despite having taken my cock many times, you recited a list of reasons why we shouldn’t be together.”

“Hmm. About that, Kole. I don’t have a fiancé. I broke it off with him days before I left to tour Scath.” She closed her eyes, wincing, waiting for an explosion.

“What?” Kole stepped back, his fingers sparking. “You let me believe…”

Her lids popped open. “Guilty. Self-preservation. I needed a barrier between you and me.” She couldn’t meet Kole’s earnest gaze. “And as far as the billion reasons we shouldn’t be together, I fell asleep before I got to the big reason why we should.”

Kole pushed into the V of her thighs, her skirt crawling up her legs. “Why should we be together?”

“I love you. Despite all the reasons I shouldn’t.” She paused, chin up, her gaze unwavering, worried he didn’t return her feelings. “Crazy, huh?”

Kole’s expression was unreadable.

Obviously, he wasn’t going to make this easier on her. “I woke up, expecting to find you beside me. Instead, I found four notes which showed pretty clearly what you thought.”

“Unfinished notes. I tossed them because I couldn’t put what I felt into words. You weren’t meant to see them.”

“You tucked tail and ran.”

Skyler waited, but Kole didn’t utter the words she wanted to hear. She shoved against his chest to get off the counter.

“Where do you think you’re going?” His arms latched around her waist, holding her in place.

Her struggle was useless. “I opened my heart to you. You haven’t said anything. I shouldn’t even be here. Let me go.”

His lips curved into an irritating smile. “You are mine, Skyler Maxwell. I’ll never let you go.”

She stopped wiggling. “And?” Her voice trailed up at the end.

“And what?” Kole tilted her chin up with two fingers, speaking in a husky whisper. “Oh. I love you, too.”

“You do?”

“Yes. I do.”

Skyler melted into his arms, her cheek nestled against his warm chest.

Kole broke the silence. “You know you’re a distraction. Right?”

“I’ve never been a distraction.” She deserted his chest to lock onto his fire-gold eyes.

“You’ve been one for me from the first moment I saw you, Frisca.”

“Really?” Skyler wrapped her arms around Kole’s thick neck. “I have a confession.”

“Spill.”

“The first time you stormed into my office and arrogantly threw yourself into that chair to wait, I kept sneaking peeks at you.”

“I know.” Kole grinned, giving Skyler his sexy, all-knowing, one-sided smile. “What do you think I was doing while you ogled me? In my mind, you were already under me while I was enjoying your wet, sweet…”
