She tangled her fingers in his hair. “Rightthere, Nico.” The friction built. “Yes. Harder. Deeper.”

Her ass planted in the dirt with rockschafing her skin, she caught sight of the beautiful male strainingabove her. Lost to passion, he slammed into her like a piston. Shegripped his forearms tight as an explosion rolled through her. Sheshouted his name.

He thrust faster and faster, his bicepsbunching. His abs clenched as he pounded into Sabine. She hung onfor dear life until he stiffened. His release spread into her likefire. With his weight off her, he pressed his groin into her forwhat seemed like forever.

When he collapsed, he rolled to his back,planting Sabine on top. “Damn. I promise next time I’ll do gentle.All night long. I so needed this, sweetness.”

Sabine was in trouble. He was not out of hersystem. She worried he might never be.

Damn human Firebrand.

They lay in silence for some time, Sabineenjoying Nico’s arms wrapped protectively around her. “You know wehave to do something with the warlock who’s still tied to thetree.” Her breathing was ragged. Her heart a thumping beat againsther ribs.

“I don’t want to move. How about roundtwo?”

She rolled onto a hip to glance at him. Sureenough. He was ready.

Holy hell.

“I think we better take care of the warlocksituation first.”

Nico grinned. “My situation’s more fun.”

“No. Yes, I mean, but the Arisen Dawnproblem is critical.” She rose, bending over for her pants.

Nico whistled. “I love your ass.” He held ahand in front of him. As he twisted his wrist, a visible wave lefthis fingers. It headed for Sabine’s dagger, which flew out of itssheath.

When it beelined for Nico, he caught it,blade first.

“What the hell did you do?” askedSabine.

“I don’t know. I wanted you. Instead, I gotyour Arkansas toothpick.”

“It’s like your body’s magnetic.”

“You say the nicest things.”

Sabine shivered and damn if she wasn’tshooting out pheromones again. She glanced at Nico’s eyes. “Holyshit, warlock.”

Ram tapped his wrist tocontact Rein.We ran into some young ones who swear our targetsheaded home last night. … Sure. We’ll meet you there. When?Hetapped again to sign off.

“Rein?” Denim had her eyes fixed on thecrowd.

“Yeah. We’ll rendezvous at the jump pointafter he investigates a lead. Galena and Thorn met a demon whospotted Varik and Norah near Jackson Square last night, definitelygoing back to Scath. This shit just got real. It’s likely the twowere snatched.”

They walked the streets in silence,sidestepping raucous partiers as Ram considered the implications oftwo kidnapped Aeternals in the hands of humans.

He pulled up short. “It’s long past dinner.I either find solid food, or I feed from you. Your choice.”

Denim drew down her brows. “Oh.” Her mauveirises flashed with understanding. “We’re on a mission.”

“Okay, food it is. You’ve talked about aPo’boy until I can taste one. Be back.” He dodged cars as hemaneuvered across the busy street to an old building where a fadedmenu was painted on the window of a restaurant.

“Tell them two shrimp, dressed and hot,cher,” Denim shouted at his back.

He waved fingers over his head.
