Before she could answer, Braelyn’s cellphonebuzzed. She leaned onto a hip and removed it from her back pocket. The caller was unidentified. “Maybe it’s Miller Nash.” She pressedaccept. “Hello.”
“Braelyn?”
“You got me.”
“It’s Miller.”
“I figured. Are you on another burner?”
“It’s the only way.”
“You need to come in where we can protectyou.” Miller was on the run, a descendant and possible member ofCustodes Templii. He had responded to Braelyn’s lurepublished in her father’s tabloid. Now they kept in touch byphone.
He let out a dignified British snort. “Nothappening. I have questions, though.”
“Shoot.” Braelyn glanced at Rein. With hisvampire-sharp hearing, she knew he picked up Miller’s end of theconversation.
“I know I’m a descendant. I know you are. Iknow you’re on Scath along with the muscle-inflated Firebrandbloke.”
“Okay.” She mimed to Rein.I don’t thinkhe likes you.
“What I don’t know is this. You told me youhave three other descendants under lock and key. I want names.”
“We need something from you first,” saidBraelyn.
Rein nodded.
“Bollocks. You want me to trust you, but youwon’t trust me.”
Rein mouthed a question for Braelyn to ask.“Are you a member ofCustodes Templii? Do you know who allthe descendants are?”
“I might be. I’ll tell you this much. I haveaccess to their information.”
“Then here’s a deal. Check on the livingoffspring. When you find out who’s missing, give me a call.” Shedisconnected.
A deep crease formed between Braelyn’s eyes.“Did I do the right thing by delivering the ultimatum and hangingup?”
“Yeah. I’m tired of being jacked around byhim. Let’s see what he really knows. So far all he’s told us ishe’s descended from the Coven andCustodes Templiiexists.Let’s assume he’s a member and they track Blood Coven spawn. Ifit’s true, he’ll give us the names of the missing. Then we’llcompare notes. If we’re feeling he’s trustworthy, we’ll tell himwho we’ve got. We’ll also have the names from him of descendantsCerberus might have in custody.”
“Miller Nash may be the break we need.”
Rein pulled his mate off the desk, wrappingan arm snug around her waist. “Let’s head home. Later, I might needto sit in on an interrogation of Denim’s ex. If he ever recovers. She really wiped his clock. Sabine and Nico also brought in a magewith ties to this group Kole’s after. Arisen Dawn. The gaffers aresoftening them both up now.”
His fangs dropped into view along with hispredatory smile. “I’m hungry. And I know what I want to eat.”
“Ooh. Lucky me. I’m on the menu.”
Before they escaped, his D-chip interruptedplans. “This better be an emergency.”
It was. Alarik called a meeting, one withall Blood Coven descendants.

Denim whispered in Ram’s ear.He was in a chair beside her at Alarik’s conference table, thedirector of the ministry having called a hasty meeting for BloodCoven descendants. “I told you. You didn’t need to come withme.”
“I said I was coming anyway. So, here Iam.”
“I can handle this myself.”
