The satyr kissed her forehead. “I loveyou.”
“I love… What did you say?”
“I love you.”
Tears welled in Denim’s eyes. “I love you, too, Ram. I was so afraid I’d never get to tell you. And if I didtell you, I thought you’d run screaming.”
“Do you think we can get a bigger suite atthe stronghold, doll? One with two bedrooms.”
“What?”
“I want to make an honest female ofyou.”
“Jonquil and you would move in? What aboutthe farm?”
“We’ll keep it, but right now, you’re saferat the stronghold. And wherever you are is where I’ll be.”
“Jonquil should have a say in this.”
“No. She shouldn’t. That you love mydaughter and that she loves you is a big, big plus. But, doll, makeno mistake. This is our biz. I want you for myself. As mymate.”
“What?”
“So young. Is your hearing going?” Ramgrinned. “What’ll it be?”
“You told me not to make more of us thanwhat it is. What happened, cher?”
“It was a dumbass thing to say. You’llprobably hear more stupid shit come out of my mouth. Ignore it.Besides, horns don’t lie.”
“I don’t understand.”
“A satyr only sprouts horns when he findsthe female who holds his heart. You’re the one, doll.”
“You didn’t tell me.”
“I was worried I’d let you down. Be unableto protect you.”
“And now?”
“I’ll probably fuck up on occasion, butloving me as you do, you’ll forgive me.”
She laughed. “I will. And hell yes.”
When Jonquil returned to the room with abottle of water, a blushing Denim popped off the bed.
The girl smothered a giggle. “Here, it’scold.”
“Good news, pest. Denim consented to be mymate. You’re the first to know.”
Jonquil jumped up and down, hugged Denim, and reached onto her toes to kiss Ram’s cheek. “I knew it. I knewyou were perfect for each other.”
Ram propped his head on his palm, elbowresting on the bed. “How did you know?”
“When I first saw Denim outside the grocerystore, she looked at you as if she loved you.”
“I did not.”
“You did. Your eyes got all sparkly when yousaw Daddy. And his got all green when he looked at you.”
