She grabbed two stacks of clean linens, placing them into the half-packed box. “None of your business, cher.”
“That’s what females say when they aren’tgetting any.”
“I have a suggestion. Why don’t you stuff asock in your mouth?” She opened a drawer, tossing a pair at Ram.His arm shot up to grab them mid-flight.
“I have a better idea for my mouth.”
“You aren’t going to shut up, are you?” Shesnapped the bottom sheet off the bed.
“Probably not.”
Rein tapped on the door frame. “Cut theshit, satyr. Let’s get the bed out of here. Hey, some of you comehelp with this stuff.”
Brak lifted the queen-size mattress withease. Tyr took the box spring. He and Rein lugged the solid ironbed out with little effort.
In the parking lot, Ram called shotgun. “I’mnot riding in the back of the truck. Come on, doll, seat of honorright next to me. Keep your hands to yourself.”
Denim smirked, sliding in beside him. Whenshe turned around for a last view of her New Orleans apartment, shesucked in a sniffle.
“Come on. No crying. You’ll be back if youwant when it’s safe.” Ram threw an arm over her shoulders.
“You’re right.Vivre la vie sansregrets.”
“Thatta girl. No regrets.”
The group headed toward the WarehouseDistrict in a big truck. Ram dropped a hand on her leg, shiftingcloser. Thigh to thigh. His lips curled into a roguish grin whilehe nibbled on her arousal.
Not too much.
Denim gave him a what-the-hell look. “Canyou scoot over?”
“Nope. I’m a big guy. I need lots of space.I suggest you sit on my lap.”
“Hah! Not happening. You’re crowdingme.”
“Good.”
She swatted at his hand before she grabbedit to stop its journey up her leg. “Stop.”
“Stop what?” His mouth twitched.
“I hope Braelyn and I aren’t this obnoxiouswhen we argue. You two should just fuck it out. Talking doesn’twork,” said Rein.
Denim turned red, sputtering while Ram movedcloser. “What do you think, doll? Have pity. Look at me.”
She glanced down where Ram’s hand adjusted abig bulge in his pants. Fingering the collar of her shirt, sheasked, “Is it hot in here?”
Denim locked her gaze onto the streetstraight ahead.
Ram stared at her profile. She was partwitch, no longer a weak human. Fair game. No harm in shamelessflirting while he fed his satyr. She was a delicious appetizer.Enjoy. A little bump and grind, a snack, and a walk out the doorwhen he was done. No entanglements.
Unfortunately, she acted like the kind offemale who wanted entanglements. He didn’t want long-term. Hedidn’t want someone else to depend on him. It was a lose-losesitch.
“The portal is inside the warehouse aroundthe corner. Time for reconnaissance. Cut the satyr shit and getserious.” Rein stopped the truck. “I’ll hold here with the stuffuntil you clear the zone. If it’s human-free, we roll onthrough.”
Brak, Chay, Galena, and Tyr stepped out ofthe back end while Ram slipped from the cab.
“I’d feel better if you stayed in thevehicle, doll.” Ram held out his hand since she insisted on acome-with.
