Skyler was about to hug Denimwhen she felt a trickle down her legs. “Uh-oh. Kole.”

Her hand flew to her watermelon-size bellywhile everyone looked at the puddle beneath her feet.

“What the fuck, Frisca.” Understanding cameslowly to his fire-gold eyes. “It’s time.” He swept Skyler into hisarms. “We need to get the hell out of here. Outta my way.”

Kole raced for a portal, Firebrands, guests, and the newly mated couple hot behind him. He kept mumbling to hismate. “You’re all right. You’re all right.”

She drew her lips into a circle, breathingin and out in short puffs as she’d been taught. She paused. “Ofcourse I’m all right, demon. I’m having a baby.”

Skyler bounced in his arms as he ran faster.“Shit. Don’t remind me. I’ve got this.” At the portal, he turned tohis audience. “Back off. Give us some room. You can follow in a fewsecs.”

She tapped his shoulder. “Kole, I thinkshe’s coming fast.”

“Fuck no. You keep her in there.”

Skyler cocked her head to the side, stillpuffing oxygen. “Don’t be stupid, demon. She’ll come when shewants. Now, get me to the med center.”

They portaled into the Ministry of WellBeing, Kole racing for the admitting desk. The healer took one lookand grabbed a wheelchair. Her demon waved it off. “Point me to theroom.”

Kole set her on the bed. Another healerentered. “Commander, you’ll have to leave.”

“No way in hell are you getting me out ofhere.” Flames shot from both hands, luckily aimed at the wall.

Skyler shrugged as best she could with laborpains shooting through her. “He won’t leave. Give up before he setsthe place on fire.”

“Okay, but he’ll be helping.”

Kole tapped his fingers together, containingsparks. “What? No. I’ll watch.”

“Males. Let’s see how far apart your painsare, honey?” The healer timed them. “Okay. You’re close. Commander, walk Skyler around the room a bit.”

“Are you crazy? She can’t be on herfeet.”

“Kole, help me.” She swung her legs over theedge of the bed.

“I don’t like this.” He shot a stream offire at the wall before he snagged onto Skyler.

“The animus demons are the worst.” Thehealer shook her head.

Kole held her waist, leading her around theroom at a slow pace.

After a half hour, the healer motionedtoward the bed. “Time to lay her on her side.”

Kole did, staying to rub her back.

“That feels good.”

The healer suppressed the pain, watching forany sign of a problem. But she was ready to push. “Prop her up onthose pillows. Knees bent, Skyler.”

Kole rested a warm hand on her shoulder tosoothe her.

“Push,” said the healer.

Mimicking her, the demon, his mouth aworried slash, muttered the same order.
