“I’m through. I can’t undo what’s been done. The ball’s in your court. Do what you need to do.”

Kole bodied Thorn into the wall. Even thoughthe shifter was strong, he was no match for an angry animus demon.“Son, you picked the wrong time to get on my bad side. Shit’scoming at us from all sides. We’ve got the human female found byTyr and Dax in the med center. Her injuries are such the healershave her in an induced coma. We don’t know her name or story. We’vegot Arisen Dawn, drugs, humans, and a fucking prophecy staring usdown. Maybe I can’t stop all the fucking crap we’re facing, but Isure as hell can do something about you. You’re suspended until Idecide you’re not. Get the hell out of my sight. When I’m ready tosee your ugly-ass self again, I’ll give you a buzz. In themeantime, you’re on vacation.”

When he removed his forearm from Thorn’schest, Kole shoved him toward the door.

Once the shifter exited, Tyr said, “Thatwent well. Now what?”

“Now you and Dax play hide-and-seek withLuka’s pack.”

“Terrific, except I can’t find thecold-hearted vampire bastard.”

“Not answering his calls again?”

“Not at the present, but he’s probablyfollowing some lead. Or…”

“Or what?”

“Or humping some O blud whore till his dickfalls off.”

Dax was trailing two demonsand a warlock. A source had come through for him again. Spendinghis free time in an O blud den paid off in information as well asextracurricular exercise.

He flattened himself against a thick treetrunk in the North Shelters Clawtooth Range, giving his prey timeto disappear from view.

He and Tyr had already split when he poppedinto his favorite blud parlor. After he sucked on the neck of andpounded his cock into a particularly luscious, tasty nymph, apsstinterrupted his enjoyment of his entertainment’saftereffects. His snitch crooked a finger, calling him over. Themale had intel on the location of three drug dealers. Dax, almostregretting his buzz, double-timed it to the shifter region, wherehe caught up with the miscreants.

Still savoring the drug-laden blood coatinghis mouth, he shook off thoughts of the female donor as he steppedfrom behind the tree to continue tracking his prey. When he roundedthe top of the rise, he pulled his brows into a furrow.

Since the greenery was thin, he had a clearview down the mountain. He spotted them chatting with some male ina sports car with its top down. The guy looked familiar, but Daxcouldn’t place him.

The car drove off and his prey hightailedit. Dax shadowflashed down one hillside and up the other. When hepaused, his keen vampire hearing picked out the rustling of leaves. He whipped his head around to see a demon slip behind a largeboulder. The lumbering behemoth was likely the cause of the racket.Demons were not known for stealth.

When he spotted a warlock crouching behind abush, he realized they had turned the tables on him. His cover wasblown. So much for being a ghost on the ass of the drugdealers.

Fuck.

The predator was the prey. Dax chargedahead, bobbing and weaving to stay out of the path of the warlock. No telling what spells the mage could cast. It was time toout-maneuver the bad guys. With every heavy, strained thighabsorbing his boots pounding into the dirt, he regretted his vices. His hand went out to touch the ground and keep him from going assover heels as he rounded a bend. Brushing off his near encounterwith humiliation, he resolved to train more often with theFirebrands and to stop frequenting O blud dens.

Too ambitious.

Maybe cut down on how many times he suckedneck.

Doable.

Ram barreled into Kole’soffice, waving a thumb behind him. “What’s with all the new facestraining in the gym? Must be twenty or thirty.”

He froze. The conference room was full.Rein, Sabine, Nico, Jezzi, Galena, Brak, Kat, Tyr, Chay. Logan hadeven escaped from his precious computers. Denim. Despite an hour inbed with her this morning, she still made his heart stutter. Thetwo recruits were here as well. The demon and the sucker. What weretheir names? Sig and Bade.

“We’ve been waiting, satyr. You’re lookinggood.” Kole stopped tapping his fingers on the table.

“Aren’t I, though?” He thumped hisonce-flayed chest. “Hey. I came as soon as I got the message. Whereare Dax and Thorn?”

He yanked out a chair next to Denim, trailing his hand along the inside of her thigh with clear malepossessiveness flashing in his translucent eyes. He couldn’t helpit.

When she smacked his arm, heads pivotedtheir way, followed by smothered chuckles.
