Having accepted his idiocy as normalbehavior, Sabine tapped her ear.

“What?” he mouthed.

“Voices,” she mimed.

Step-by-step he climbed the stairs, creepingcloser. He made a good warrior, not a sound from his boots to alertthe enemy. When he reached the top, he slid along the wall, out ofsight of the window. He signaled Sabine.

Totally into the mission now, she followedup the steps, putting herself between Nico and the door into theoffice. The move earned her a big scowl, but she shrugged, stayingin place. Let him try to muscle her out of the way.

Holding her hand high while using her nymphhearing, she listened. She raised four fingers. He nodded. When shestretched an arm across his chest to hold him back, his glareturned feral. Ignoring him, she placed herself directly in front ofthe door and kicked it open.

As she did, Nico elbowed her out of the wayas he launched himself between her and the four males inside. Hecharged forward.

“Damn you.” She tore after him.

When the males came to their senses, theirweapons whipped out.

Sabine left her Arkansas toothpick holsteredbut drew the double-bladed staff from her back to take on twoArisen Dawn members. She tapped one tip to the floor while shesmiled. “Come on, motherfuckers.”

When she spared a fleeting glance at Nico,he snatched a tomahawk from his belt with one hand and slid a Buckcombat knife out of his triple holster with the other. She admiredhis fighting form along with his flexing muscles as heattacked.

Sabine made quick work of one opponent whowas foolish enough to charge her armed only with a switchblade. Shespun. On the turn, she drove her staff blade into his heart.Kicking his body aside, she motioned the other male forward. “Comeon. Don’t make me wait. I got a hair appointment.”

Her challenger was a satyr whose neon greeneyes could have meant he was going to feed from her, but since shewasn’t aroused, she went with option two. He was on some drug whichmade him bat-shit crazy. Spinning again, she kicked forward. Thetip of her blade followed her foot, nicking her opponent’sshoulder.

“Shit. You’re gonna pay,” the druggieroared.

“Who’s gonna make me? Not you. You fightlike a sissy. My grandmam could take you down.”

Because of her taunts, he swiped wildly ather, which was what she counted on. A hot-headed, mind-fucked satyrwas as good as dead. She gracefully danced away from each move, bobbing, spinning, watching for an opening. Then it came.

The satyr lunged with his right hand thrustforward, leaving his other side completely open. That was all atrained Firebrand such as Sabine needed. She sent her spear intohis side, withdrew it, and slammed home into his heart before heeven realized he was in trouble.

Catching a breath, she rested her hands onher knees while she glanced around for Nico. One Arisen Dawn malewas dead at his feet, his head nearly chopped off with thetomahawk. Now the human was dancing with another Aeternal.

“He’s an incubus. Don’t let him touch you,”yelled Sabine.

“Thanks, sweetness. The only one touching mewill be you.”

She snorted.

“Did you hear, incu-bastard? No stroking me.The nymph wants the pleasure herself.”

Nico was gorgeous in battle mode. He waslight on his feet. Despite the chatter, he was fully focused on theother male. His muscles rippled with power as he shifted from onefoot to the other.

The incubus landed a lucky cut with aknife.

“Fuck. Enough of this shit. I have a lady toimpress.” He raised his tomahawk, took aim, and let go. It sailedstraight through the air with awhoosh.

The stunned incubus watched as it embeddedin his chest, his look wide in disbelief just before hetoppled.

Nico marched to him. He put a foot on hisabdomen, withdrawing his weapon from the Arisen Dawn male andwiping the Tomahawk’s blade on the guy’s shirt.

“It’s important to keep the edge clean.”Nico twisted toward Sabine. “I see you made fast work of the othertwo. Aren’t you glad we dropped in?”

Sabine shook her head to clear away thethoughts of how spectacular Nico looked with his dark boyish hair,five-o’clock shadow, sultry eyes outlined with thick lashes, toppedwith black brows.Wait. She squeezed her lips together, remembering how they got inside this building to begin with.“You’re a fucking idiot. We never should have come into thewarehouse or attacked. It was dangerous, immature, downrightcrazy.”

“Maybe, but look at all this great shit.”Nico was standing over the desk, shuffling maps and papers. “Thisis a treasure trove of info. Give Kole a buzz.”
