He shushed her again until a mist spreadaround them both.
When she squirmed against his hold, Denimfelt the thick, steely length of Ram’s erection on her belly. Shewhispered, “What the fuck is that?”
He shrugged. “The one thing’s kinda obvious. The other is my camouflage. Satyr skill. I just cloaked us, made usinvisible. We have visitors. Hush.” His finger rested on her moistlips.
She hoped nobody else saw the glow from hisbright green eyes.
Denim stopped twisting to get out of hisarms. Turning her head in the direction of the alley, she trackedthree men. They were armed, tell-tale bulges sticking out fromunder their jackets.
All of a sudden, one bent his knees, springing from the ground onto the roof of a building. The othertwo followed.
“Are those guys humans?” she whispered.
“Through and through.” Ram fixed on the menwho streaked across the rooftop.
He released Denim, the cloak fading.
“Take me with you up there.”
“Grab hold.”
She latched her arms around Ram’s neck as heleaped to the top of the building. When he set her feet down, theysprinted in the same direction as their targets. Jumping acrossthree rooftops with the satyr’s help, she observed the mendisappear over the side of a brick structure in the distance. Bythe time she and Ram arrived, they merged with a crowd of MardiGras revelers below.
With her hands on her hips, she stared atthe street. “That’s not normal.”
“Damn straight.”
“We lost them. My fault. If you didn’t haveto carry me, you could have caught one of them.”
“You’re my partner. You go where I do.” Heinhaled, his gaze on the activities below. “These weren’t the samethree males Tyr and I bumped up against. I wonder how many teamsthey’ve got at our portals.”
She shrugged. “I hate being outsmarted andoutmuscled, cher.”
Ram scrubbed the back of his fist across hischin. “Cher? Doesn’t it mean ‘darling’?”
“No. Yes. But we call everyone‘cher.’ It’s a local thing.”
When he grinned, her heart skipped abeat.
She waved her hand dismissively. “It meansnothing.”
“If you say so, darling.”
“Stop it.” She couldn’t help the silly smilecurving her lips.Yep. He was charming. “Explainsomething.”
“Anything.”
“Why do your eyes go from translucentsea-glass-green to neon?”
“Hmm. A lot of reasons. Strong emotions.Feeding.”
She stood still. “So, Galena was serious.Feeding? As from arousal?”
“Uh-huh.”
“I wasn’t aroused when you cloaked us.”
“Doll. You can lie to yourself, but it won’tdo any good to lie to me. You were a full-course meal. Includingdessert and after dinner drinks. Throw in the appetizers, too. Aquick taste is second nature to a satyr.”
