Not only did she reject his offer of help, but she knocked it out of the way. “I’d feel better if you shut thefuck up, but we can’t always get what we want.”
A frown tugged at his lips. “Females.”
“I heard you.”
They prowled forward. Ram nudged ahead ofher.
“I thought we’d settled the macho bullshit. It just pisses me off.” Denim smacked his shoulder.
“Pissed off is better than dead. Kolechanged the orders. You’re precious cargo now. Besides, this way,you can admire my ass.”
“I’m more likely to put a bullet in it.”
“Ouch. You gotta curb your hostility. Itmight get in the way of my pounding into you. Though angry sex isgood.”
As they rounded the corner, Ram held upthree fingers, IDing the number of males near the entrance to thewarehouse’s roll-up door.
Tyr nodded, signaling he was movingforward.
As Denim maneuvered nearer Galena, a pieceof glass crunched under her foot. The sound shattered the silence. The waiting humans fumbled for their guns, obviously surprised tofind action coming from the street rather than from the portalsite.
Brak whipped out his butterfly swords, did afew figure eights, and charged the biggest guy. Kole had warnedthem to keep noise down. No gun battles out in the open.
The human fired at the carnal demon whodeftly bobbed, rolled, and weaved out of harm’s way, all the whileslicing through the air with his blades.
When the guy’s weapon jammed, he threw itagainst the wall and extracted a knife.
He ducked under Brak’s swords with fleetfeet, avoiding danger with smooth moves of his own, almost landinga gut stab to the big demon Firebrand. When Brak’s blades did theirjob, the human went down in a pile of dead.
Tyr called out a warning. “Watch it,satyr.”
A guy sporting a classic Iron Maiden T-shirtstepped out from behind crates, taking aim. He fired wildly whenRam took off in a full-out run toward him.
Thud. Thud. Thud.
He tackled the shooter before the guy couldscramble to cover.
Grabbing a handful of shirt, he planted afist to the guy’s jaw, driving his head into the concrete with aclunk. The punch should have laid a human out cold, but he shook itoff.WTF?His jaw should be broken. His skull cracked.
Must be the superhuman shit.
They rolled, the Iron Maiden fan straddlingRam and narrowly missing his chin with a solid airborne fist.
Fuck.
Ram maneuvered to the top, spinning thehuman onto his stomach. He caught the guy’s neck in the crook ofhis arm.
Despite being in a deadly headlock, thehuman threw off Ram’s hold, barreling onto his feet and streakingoff to join Baseball Cap, who was rabbiting.
The two human males paused at the brickwall, nodded at each other, bent their knees, and jumped onto thestore’s rooftop.
“Told you these guys were jacked up,”muttered Ram.
He, Galena, Chay, and Tyr sprang onto thesame roof with ease.
“There they go.” The warlock pointed at anearby building. “They’re fast.”
Tyr flicked his wrist to cast what Ramthought must be a holding spell.
