Chapter Nineteen

When the Alliance-agent-turned-Firebrandentered the outer office, Bounty rose, smoothed her fire-engine-redleather skirt, and flipped her blonde hair over her shoulder. “Doyou wear anything other than BDU’s or jeans?”

“I’ve been training with Ram. On a break.”Denim glanced at her pants. “But yes, I do. Fact is, recently I gotlucky because of a purple sundress.”

They high-fived before Bounty nudged hertoward Kole’s office with a hand on her back. “Walk right in.”

Pushing the door open, Denim expected astream of fire to shoot her way. Instead, Kole was at his desk, head lowered, concentrating on some document in his fingers. Hegrabbed a pen and scrawled a hasty signature.

Glancing at her, he shoved the papers aside, giving his full attention to Denim. “You got something to tellme?”

She was about to share her story when twochuckling women flounced into the office arm in arm. Braelyn andMargo arrived.

Skyler entered a minute later, glancing ather watch before she strolled over to Kole, bent, and kissed him onthe cheek.

“That’s it, Frisca?”

She arched a regal brow. “For now, demon. Ihave to get back to headquarters.”

“Pull up a knee.” He cast a lopsided grinher way while patting his leg.

Not looking quite so frosty, the pregnantSkyler obliged him and curled her fingers around her mate’s neckwhile the other women selected chairs.

“I’m here.” Nico stormed into the office infull gear, a knife hanging from a hip holster, a long blade at hisspine. He snapped his gaze toward Denim. “Holy shit. I’mpissed.”

She fluttered the lashes outlining her rich,mauve-tinted eyes. They were no longer chestnut.

Braelyn propped her fists on her hips.

Margo took a minute to seize on Denim’s newlook. “You got all witchy, girl.”

Skyler tilted her chin, staring at the BloodCoven descendant.

“When?” asked Kole.

“I was training with Ram yesterday when ithappened. Something else, too.”

“What?” Margo flipped a strand of red hairover her shoulder.

“I made it rain.” She paused, waiting for areaction. “Inside.”

The room was hushed.

Kole cocked his head. “You controlweather?”

Braelyn snapped her fingers. “Cool.”

Everyone glanced at Nico as he batted hiseyelashes in imitation of Denim. “Nope. Still shockingly sexygreen. No warlock yet. You might as well cut me loose, Commander.I’m not one of your Blood Coven.”

“The tests don’t lie.” Kole rested his palmon Skyler’s thigh.

“You’ve been here longer than Denim has,”said Margo.

“Rub it in.” An angry shadow clouded Nico’sface.
