“We need to stop this.” Sabine lifted aboot, prepared to walk.
Nico grabbed her arm. “Yeah, but it would benice to hear more first. Of course, if we go in to save thewarlock, maybe he’ll spill. Okay. In it is.”
“Watch the arrows. Ylves are deadlyaccurate.”
“You care about me.”
“No. We have a conversation to finish.” Thenymph flashed her translucent pale greens at him.
Nico smiled, whooping a war cry before hecharged from his cover, heading straight for the bigger ylve. TheAeternal was slow to react. With surprise in his favor, Abello tookhim down, planting a fist on the guy’s jaw hard enough to removeteeth like a dentist.
The ylve shook off the pain, shot his kneeup, and tossed Nico overhead. When the guy got to his feet, he drewa blade, flipping it from hand to hand.
Fisting his own knife, Nico sprang from theground. They circled each other. The Aeternal lunged. When Nicoside-stepped the move, he avoided a stab to the gut but took ashallow cut on his lower arm.
The ylve’s pleasure was short-lived. When hecharged Abello again, he ended up in a headlock with a blade shovedinto his chest deep enough to draw blood.
“Fuck, human. Watch it.”
“Shut up, wimp. It’s a short trip to yourheart. Drop your weapon.”Thump. It hit the dirt. He lookedaround for Sabine.
She was holding her own with the other ylve. While Nico watched, her foot connected with the guy’s jaw.
Ouch. That had to hurt.
Abello squeezed his arm tighter around hisArisen Dawn opponent’s neck.
Ack. Ack.
The guy loosened Nico’s arm. He rasped,“Air, asswipe.” Then he swung a foot behind him, trying to topplethe human Firebrand. The strategy failed. Nico squeezed harderuntil the guy stopped moving, his knees buckling, his bodylimp-dishragging it.
Oops. Too tight.
Nico dropped his opponent’s body and eyedSabine, his arms crossed over his chest. She was beauty in motion, spinning, kicking, weaving her double-bladed staff through the airlike an artist. All woman. He wanted her under him now.
“Hurry up,” he shouted. “I got a hard-onwaiting for you.”
Sabine did a three-sixty, her bladefollowing her pivot while she separated the ylve’s head from hisbody. One part tumbled into a tree while the rest collapsed at herfeet in a heap.
“Only you can think about sex when we’re infull fight mode.”
Sabine’s eyes widened. She sprinted towardNico, pushing him aside. Swinging her staff, she beheaded theawakened ylve who was about to stab Nico in the back. Cleaning herblade on her pants, she said, “An Aeternal isn’t dead for sureuntil his head is severed.”
“Lesson learned. Thanks.”
“You’re injured.” Sabine approached, gentlefingers touching his wound, those big translucent eyes soft withconcern.
“This little thing? It’s nothing. Kiss it tomake it better.”
Sabinetsked. She removed the scarfholding her ponytail, wrapping it around his arm. “This will makeit better.”
“I’d rather you kissed it.”
She smirked. “Recon the outside. I’ll takecare of the quarters. Make sure there are no surprises.”
For once, Nico did as she ordered, bidinghis time while she cleared the house. She strode out the door, tight leather pants, snug belly shirt, combat boots, and blondehair swinging, wisps of it brushing her cheeks. Her swaying doubleDs begged for his attention. He rushed her, grabbing a hand. “Ican’t wait any longer, sweetness.”
Nico pulled Sabine into the shelter of agrove of trees. “Strip.” Fight lust rolled through him as he toreoff his blade holster, ripped out of his shirt, kicked off hisboots, and shucked his pants.
