Once he toweled off, he flung his head forward to shake the water from his hair. He slipped into a pair of skin-tight leathers the females loved. He didn’t bother with a shirt because it wouldn’t stay on too long once the night’s activities began. Off to work. His dick got hard just thinking about the succubus who would be waiting for him. She liked the sex rough. And right now, he was feeling sadistic.
When he rounded a corner in the hallway, he heard sobs. Bounty. He quickened his pace. Her door was cracked. He pushed it open. On the bed, his thirteen-year-old sister huddled in a tight ball, her knees to her chin and her fingers clutching the hem of her dirty dress around her feet.
Hearing Dax, she bolted upright, her hands covering her face. “Get out.”
“It’s me, little sis.”
“No. Leave. I don’t want you to see me like this.”
A growl rumbled up from Dax’s gut. He grabbed his sister’s wrists, pulling them away from her dress. He scanned her body. The mattress. Blood. A small drop of blood. Her innocence. Her childhood. Gone.
“You’re hurting me.” Tears streaked her cheeks.
Dax had gripped her tight, but he loosened his hold. “I’m sorry. Who did this to you?”
“What are you talking about?” She sniffed.
A brother knew when a sister was hiding something. Besides, he was staring at the evidence on the bed. The bed creaked with his weight as he sat, giving her a little shove to make space for his large frame. “Tell me what happened, Bounty. I’m not leaving till you do.”
She turned on him, her eyes on fire. He had never seen her so angry. “No. You think I don’t know what you do for me? I’m young. Not stupid.”
“I don’t do anything for you.”
Her hand reached out to cup his chin. Calm returned to her. “Yes, you do, brother. You protect me from my father. The same male who killed our mother.” She swallowed. “I know. He didn’t murder her outright, but he hooked her on O and that killed her.”
“Bounty, you are a child. My job is to protect you. I failed. Now tell me who raped you.”
He said it. He gave words to the horrible event. She broke into gasping sobs.
Dax had tried to keep her from the sordid side of their lives. The beatings. The sex. But he had been off going through his Awakening, enjoying his new powers, while his stepfather offered up Bounty as fodder in his whorehouse.
She rolled over, her back to Dax. “No.”
“You will or I will ask him.”
She flipped around, her fingers clutching his arm. “No. Don’t fight with him. He’ll kill you one of these times.”
Dax laughed. “He can’t. I’m too strong for him and too valuable.”
“You’re not too strong. You haven’t had your Awakening yet. He’s a mature vampire with power.”
“Little sis, trust me. He cannot hurt me.”
Even before his Awakening, Dax had worked out every day with Firebrands at the North Shelters stronghold where his real father had been a warrior. They had taken him under their wings after he had approached one of them, puffing out his chest and proclaiming he would be a Firebrand someday.
“Your father’s an arrogant SOB who bullies females and weak males. Now tell me, or I swear I’m never moving.”
Bounty’s lids hung low, making her look younger than her years. “Sagen.”
Dax’s fangs punched from his gums, crimson fury rushed to his eyes, and shallow breaths pumped in and out of his chest. Bounty drew away in fear, shuddering.
Dax clenched his jaw tight. “You will shower and pack immediately. Do you understand?” He clenched her upper arm, imprinting it with bruises.
“You’re hurting me, Dax.”
“Sorry.” He relaxed his grip.
“Are you angry with me because I let the male take me?”
