“Wolves don’t divorce. They don’t cheat either. Thorn’s in it for life.” Dax grabbed a whiskey from a tray. “Thanks, Margo.”

“You’re welcome, Dax.”

“A life sentence, you say. Ouch.” Matty nodded a thanks as he snatched a beer from the same tray.

“You have a very negative outlook on life, human.”

“But you’re a cheerful sod. What’s coming up?”

“Ceremony over. Thorn wins. The end.” Dax downed his whiskey.

With his beer in hand, Matty surveyed the crowd. “Now, there’s a beauty who could make me forget my vow never to marry again.”

“Who?” Dax followed the American’s gaze. “That’s my sister. Off limits.”

“That’s her? Somehow, I pictured her as ugly. Like you. Yourhermanais hot.”

“Yeah? One wrong move will get you knocked on your ass. If not by her, then by me. Life has been hard enough on Bounty with a worthless brother. She doesn’t need a human to break her heart.”

“Looks to me she’d break my heart. Along with a few other body parts.” Matty pushed off from the wall. “Here she comes. Be sure to talk me up as if you like me. Lie.”

Bounty sashayed toward them on four-inch heels and too few clothes, in Dax’s estimation. She threw her arms around him. “Brother, come on. Take a risk. Hug me.”

As he pried her fingers from his neck, he whispered, “Damn, shush. Everyone will hear you.”

“Too late. I already outed us. I’m tired of all this secret shit.”

He glanced at the guests. No one was watching. They were enjoying their private convos.

“Who is your friend?” Bounty batted her mascara-heavy eyelashes at Matty, licking her too-red lips.

“Fellow prisoner. A human. Ignore him. I do.”

When Matty lifted her hand to his mouth for a kiss, she smiled. “Impossible. I would never ignore someone so handsome.”

“I was just telling your bro I saw the most beautiful woman at the party.”

“Who was it?” Bounty blinked with feigned innocence.

Dax poked a finger in Matty’s chest. “I warned you.”

Bounty tugged on her brother’s arm. “Really? I’ve been meeting males on my own for over a century. Oops. Does that make me too old for you, handsome?”

“Definitely not. I love an older, experienced woman.”

Dax snarled. “Not only is he a human, but he’s with an Earther army. They’re trying to kill us.”

Matty tilted his head toward Bounty. “Everybody has faults,mi amada. I could never kill you, though. Except with kindness.”

“You could charm the panties right off me if I’m not careful.”

“Please, Gahya. I’m standing right here.” Dax’s eyes flitted from Bounty to Matty. From Matty to Bounty. “This will not turn out well.”

“Brother, we are two consenting adults.”

Dax held up a hand to quiet his sister before he slammed Matty against the wall, forearm to the human’s neck, prepared to give him some friendly advice. When someone tapped his shoulder, he cocked his head and looked down.

Chiara.
