“Gah! Okay, my English teacher has the best fucking boyfriend ever!” She jumped up and down, spinning around the classroom. I let her dance around for a couple more minutes before reining her back in.

“Selena, I need you to make me a promise. Please,” I said calmly, and she felt the seriousness of my tone. Sliding back my way, she sat down on the edge of my desk again and looked directly at me.

“Okay.”

“You can not tell a soul. Not even Caralee or Madison. Or anyone else. Not a single soul.”

Her shoulders sagged. “Why not?”

“Because I like my privacy. Plus, if any of my bosses find out that was me, I’m pretty sure I would get fired. I mean, it is what it looks like, and I’m pretty sure that’s not the example as a teacher I should be setting.”

“But you like him. He likes you. That’s what happens.”

“Yes,andwe are both adults. But that doesn’t matter. I’m still influential to teenagers in my position as a teacher.”

Plus, my friends…

“Oh. I get it.” Her voice softened. “I promiseI won’t tell anyone.”

“Thank you. Now, you should probably go before class starts.” I nodded to my door as the warning bell rang for first hour to begin.

She smiled. “I’m jealous of you, just so you know.” Selena slipped off of my desk.

“Jealous?”

“Duh. I can only imagine what he’s like.”

“You’re a minor, and he’s almost thirty,” I stated, and she rolled her eyes.

“I know that. I’m just saying, you’re living like every girl’s dream right now.” She smiled and walked out of my classroom just as my first students rolled on in.

Chapter 31

My second hour was livelier than usual. Wednesday was halfway to the end of the week. Closer to the day of the concert, but not close enough, so they were restless. Plus, I was constantly hearing whispers of the stupid pictures that I needed to talk to Asher about. And Sydney. Shit. Sydney. If she found out that it was me, what was stopping… Wait, no. I was wearing a dress Asher had given me, and I’d left that at his house last night. So, we were hopefully fine there.

“Guys, seriously. I know everyone is excited for Friday, but we have to finish this lecture,” I stated, trying to collect my students’ attention again.

“It’s not about the concert, Miss Duval,” Dane stated, rolling his eyes.

“Then what’s it about?” I sassed back, and Benson chuckled.

“The pictures of Asher’s girlfriend and him from last night,” Madison blurted out.

“Right? What a slut,” Caralee huffed. She folded her arms and slumped in her seat. My eyes darted to Selena. She gave me a sympathetic smile before I returned my attention to Caralee.

“What do you mean, slut?” I cautiously asked.

“Miss Duval, they were totally getting it on in the backseat of a car,” Dane replied for her and wiggled his brows. “If you know what I mean.”

“I know what you mean, Dane. Thank you.”

Teenagers. Specifically, hormonal teenage boys.

“I don’t know why you’re getting upset at them for going at it. I’m pretty sure if you were dating him, you’d be doing the same thing,” Selena said, subtly defending me.

Gasps sounded across the room, and nearly every head spun to face Selena. “You’re on this mysterious woman’s side?” Caralee blinked in shock.

Selena merely shrugged her shoulders and shrank in her seat.
