“Why not? And then after, we’ll go back to my place, shower, and fuck all night.”
“What about your housemates?”
“What about them?”
“They’re going to know.”
“And?”
“You’re okay with that?” I ask.
“Sugar, I told you, I’m not shy when it comes to sex. They’ve all heard me.”
“Yeah, but this is different.”
“It sure as fuck is,” Ethan insists and kisses me again. “If any of them so much as flirt with you, we’re gonna have a problem.”
I shouldn’t like his possessiveness, but I do. I finally turn around and face him.
“I’m serious.”
“So am I.”
He reaches for me again, but I put a hand to his chest.
“Stop that.”
“What?”
“Kissing me. We’re never going to get out of this bathroom if you keep that up.”
Ethan’s cocky grin is in full force, and I’m helpless to resist it.
“It’s time to go,” he insists and unlocks the door.
“I can’t believe I’m doing this,” I mutter under my breath.
“You smell fucking amazing. Like the lake and me and our sex. It’s the best thing ever. You should bottle it.”
“You’re crazy.”
“Has been said many times.”
Ethan opens the door, and like the bossy shit he is, motions for me to get moving. Then it hits me.
“My coach is out there, and the other crews,” I hiss. “What if they suspect?”
“Just wave goodbye to them and we’re out of here.”
Ethan offers me his hand, and for some reason, even after what we just did, I hesitate to take it. Not because I don’t want to, but because I worry that once I touch him, I won’t want to let go.
But when I look into his eyes, I can’t refuse. I take his offered hand, and the restlessness I always feel churning away inside of me somehow settles.
We head for the patio, but I don’t see Lin or the other coaches. Have they left already? I can only hope that’s the case.
I stand on the periphery and notice that Hudson, Archie, and Reese are huddled at a table together, and I offer a smile. Ethan lets go of my hand, but he doesn’t stop touching me. Instead, he places his big hand on my lower back as we walk toward my friends. I lick my lips, hyperaware that they’re swollen and that everyone I know is going to suspect what Ethan and I were up to.
“Is Lin gone?” I ask my friends.
