I have one hand that’s free of cum, so I reach up to cup his face, but Jett pulls back.
“Don’t, Ethan.”
“What? I don’t understand?”
Normally I’m the one who’s not into repeats, not the other way around. Did I do or say something wrong?
“Pass me my backpack,” Jett mutters.
I reluctantly tuck myself in, zip up, and reach for Jett’s bag.
“Aren’t we going to talk about this?” I ask as I pass it to him.
Jett shakes his head and reaches into his bag, pulling out a kit that contains hand wipes and sanitizer.
“What’s to talk about?” he says as he offers me a wipe for my hand. “You were curious, I was horny, it happened.”
“It’s not curiosity,” I snap.
Jett shrugs, cleans himself off, then pulls those indecent-looking shorts back up. There’s cum stains all over them and no hiding what he’s been up to. He pulls a forest green cable-knit sweater out of his bag and throws it on.
“It has to be,” he replies without making eye contact. “That’s what you want, right? One and done? I know your reputation.”
“This is different.”
“Why?”
There’s his favorite fucking word again.
I can’t explain it, but I’m sure as fuck not done with Jett. I thought that kissing him would break my obsessive thoughts, but it hasn’t. I’ve taken my first hit and now I need more. More, more, more. And the way he kissed me, I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one.
“You’re different.”
Jett ignores my comment.
“I better get going. I need to run back to the dorm to change before meeting up with the guys.”
“I’ll see you at Boots.”
“Maybe you should skip lunch?”
“They invited me, and I said yes. I’m going.”
Jett finally meets my gaze. I can tell by his shuttered expression that his walls are up again. But it’s too late, I’ve already seen past them. I don’t think I can read anyone, not even my closest friends, as well as I do him. What that means, I don’t know. Not yet.
“Then I’ll see you later,” he whispers and takes off running.
I rest my hand—which is trembling—on the tree, and watch him jog down the trail. I should be satisfied after that orgasm, but all I want to do is chase after Jett. The air around me suddenly feels cooler, and I start to shiver even though I’m hot as hell and sweating through my clothes.
He’s going to try to act like what we did was nothing. Fuck that. This is not over. Part of me can’t believe what happened, but I’m not one for denial either.
Jett can run all he wants.
Sooner or later, like today, I’m going to catch him.
