“And if it doesn’t?”

“Then I’m in way over my head.”

Once I’m changed, I say goodbye to my teammates and find Jett waiting for me outside the locker room. Only, he’s not sitting but standing against the wall, legs crossed, his phone in his hand. He’s got a determined look on his face, and I wonder what he’s thinking about.

My eyes eat him up as my heart takes off like I’m chasing the puck.

“Hey.”

Jett shoves his phone in his jacket pocket and stalks toward me, a smile hovering on his lips.

“You still free this aft?” I ask, trying to sound casual.

“I’m here, aren’t I?”

I motion to the exit, and he walks in front of me. I want to take his hand, but I’m afraid once I touch him, I won’t be able to stop. We step outside and make our way through campus, and I notice that the quad is busy with students.

“Head to my place and order in?” I offer.

“I like the sound of that.”

“Did you have a good time on the ice?”

“I did.”

“With a few sessions, I’ll have you?—”

My comment’s interrupted when I hear Jett’s name being called. We turn to find Archie, Hudson, and Reese heading our way.

“Where are you guys off to?” Hudson asks.

“We’re going back to mine to, uh… work.”

Yeah, work, as in fuck our brains out.

“I didn’t know you shared any classes,” Archie replies.

“It’s the national competition volunteer stuff—” Jett confirms.

Thank God one of us has the presence to offer a decent white lie.

“But you could come with us for a bit? Right, Ethan? You did offer.”

I give Jett the evil eye but paste on my polite smile for his friends.

“Yes, I did. Why not?”

Reese sidles up to Jett and starts talking rowing shit, and suddenly I’m left out of the conversation. Those two have way more in common than me and Jett, and I don’t know why, but it rankles. And when the two of them start walking side by side, my mood takes another nosedive. I follow along with Archie and Hudson, but for once I’m not able to make conversation.

The longer we walk, the closer Reese gets to Jett. Not that Jett seems to notice, but still, I don’t want this dude thinking he has a shot with my Sugar. Not after I made it clear that Jett was with me.

But Jett’s not really your boyfriend. Is that fair to him?

No, but I don’t care about fair. He’s with me.

By the time we reach the frat house, I’m practicallyfrothing at the mouth. Archie and Hudson have walked past me and are now leading our pack.

Jett glances over his shoulder, and when he sees my expression, he winks.
