Rage filled Nox and he lunged for us.Nyx and Mrak got in the way, holding him back with their strength and powers. They had come to our aid knowing what I really was.I suspected they intervened more for Darce than me.

A massive cloud of darkness began to fill the room.Angry, vengeful, and powerful, it was pulling us in.Looking towards the back of the room, my eyes became focused on Tamas. His eyes were full of dark magic and his power was fully focused on me.

“Go!”Nyx called to us while Mrak was fighting with Nox.

Darce pulled me into the portal and we spun out of control until my back hit stone. As I looked at our surroundings, I realized we were deep in the mountains somewhere.

“Fuck!Alora, are you okay?”Darce touched my face, checking for any signs of darkness in my eyes.“My father’s magic didn’t touch you, did it?”

“N...no,” I sobbed.“I’m okay, nothing touched me.”Tears were streaming down my face.“W...what are we going to do now?”

“I’ll take you back to Dallethas.I need to smooth things over with my parents and Nox.Hopefully the fire twins will already be pleading our case.”

“Your father had pure wrath in his eyes, Darce. This will start the next great war. What have I done?”

“Hey, Starshine, this wasn’t your fault.I was so lost in you, I didn’t sense your power. If it’s anyone’s fault, it’s mine.”I wasn’t allowing him to take the blame.I was the one who couldn’t control my powers.

“No, I won’t let you take this all upon yourself.”He moved, backing me against the stone wall. His eyes were wet with emotion.

“Maybe we need to keep our distance for a little while.”

“No!”I sobbed, clinging to him.

“We need to be realistic, Alora.”

“We need to staytogether.I will not accept anything else!Youare all I need.”

“I will not sacrifice your immortal soul.I love you!Do you understand?I.LOVE.YOU!”Never did I think it would be like this...admitting our feelings because we weren’t sure how much time we’d have together. The pure passion leaking from his eyes at his confession floored me.

“I love you, too,” I admitted, needing him to know I felt the same way.

“No!Youcan’tsay those words out loud. They make it impossible for me to stay away. You are pure, Alora. You are Dylin!Loving a Noxlin like me goes against everything you are.I have been so foolish in thinking I could keep you safe.Whatever Holy Ether has planned for us, it’s not going to end the way we want it to.”He honestly thought I cared what Holy Ether deemed for us.It was already too late.I was his either way.

“I don’t give afuckwhat Holy Ether has deemed for us!Ichooseyou!I’m pure because of my love for you. You’ve taught me so much, Darce.More than I could even comprehend.Noxlin are nothing like my race describes.I began falling for you the night you saved me, but couldn’t admit it to myself at the time,” I sobbed, desperate for him to finally know the truth.“You have taken over my entire heart.Allof it is yours.I’m nothing without you.I’d rather bedeadthan live without you!Do you understand what you mean to me?You’re allowed to declare your love, but I can’t?Well, fuckthat, andfuckyou!I love you, so fucking deal with it!”At my words, his lips crashed against mine. The urgency of the kiss was unlike any we had experienced before.

“We are doomed,my love,” Darce breathed against my lips. His voice cracked with sadness and fear before he deepened the kiss, holding the sides of my face as he poured all his love into it.

We were both breathless when our lips parted. It took all my willpower not to beg him to fuck me right here on this moutain.

“I better get you back home before my father tracks us.”As he softly stroked my face, wisps of shadow began to form, becoming darker as they enveloped us.

Back in my own bedchamber, Loki and Enyo were the first to greet us.“Go!Sort things out with your parents,” I stressed, touching his chest.“I’ll be fine.”He was torn; the look on his face said it all.“You’ve got to make them understand. My fatherwantsto go to war with you.If he succeeds, it will be a bloodbath.”

“You have the bracelet ifanythinghappens. If word gets out about the Noxlin ball and I’m not here to protect you from that motherfucker, Xavier, I’ll...”

“I’ll be fine,” I interrupted, soothing him by stroking his face.“I love you.Nowgo!”Darce crashed his lips against mine, and I wrapped my arms around his neck, pulling him closer.

“I love you.I’ll be back as soon as I can,” he muttered against my mouth as shadows surrounded him.In less than a second, I felt him disappear from my embrace.

Loki and Enyo whined in protest at his sudden exit.“Didn’t you miss me at all?”I chuckled as Enyo rubbed against me, pushing Loki out of the way.“He’s got really important things to do, pups.”It wasn’t quite how I had envisioned his birthday celebrations ending.Holy Ether, don’t forsake us.Please watch over him for me.

After trying to get out of my Noxlin gown for an hour, I realised it was hopeless.Darce had tied me in really well.Knowing I couldn’t wander around the palace in the gown, I waited for my ladies-in-waiting.They would be here soon to feed Loki and Enyo.

I paced the room as I tried to keep calm. What if Tamas and Duna had taken their anger out on Darce? What if they hadn’t listened to him?

The tight bodice of my dress felt suffocating.I pulled at it as I paced until my door began to open.

Low snarls came from Loki and Enyo as they moved in front of me.Their growls became louder as Xavier appeared at my door with a few of his guards and my ladies-in-waiting.No!How had he managed to gain access to my chamber? It was forbidden, unless...
