“You called Holloway?”

“Yeah, I did. He can take Rory back to the house so I can deal with you,” I practically snarled, standing taller when the prick got in my face.

“You want to fight me, Skeet? Over some bitch?”

“I’ll kick your ass again, sure,” I scoffed, shoving him back and tucking Rory under my arm. It concerned me that she wasn’t reacting much. She should’ve been freaking out and crying, but she just seemed numb.

I hated what we were doing to her, but part of me was also proud of how she’d looked Slash in the eye a second ago and told him off.

“Coming,” I called back to Caden, not wanting him to walk in here and see his father.

I guided Rory from the room, and Caden’s eyes widened when he noticed all the blood.

“What the hell happened? Is she hurt?”

“I don’t think so,” I sighed, inspecting Rory’s face as she stared back at me. “Are you hurt?”

She shook her head, her voice barely a whisper. “Don’t go in there, Caden. I don’t want that for you.”

She started walking towards the main door, and Caden glanced at me curiously.

w“What’s in there?”

“Slash locked her in there with your dad. I don’t really know what went down, but it’s obvious who was left standing,” I murmured, clapping him on the shoulder. “Sorry, man. It’s a mess in there.”

“She killed my dad?” he asked as his eyes followed her with surprise, not sounding mad, just worried.

“Yeah. Can you take her home, or do you want me to? I understand if?—”

“I’ll take her,” he said quickly, starting to follow her. “Can she call you if she needs you?”

“Always. No word about your dad, okay?” I stated, and he gave me a firm nod before turning to leave with her.

The second I heard the Challenger drive off, I walked back into the room and over to Slash, not hesitating before punching him in the face.

I barely felt the hit that he threw back, and before long, we were both throwing fists back and forth until the cleanup crew arrived to deal with the carnage of Rory’s vengeance.

CHAPTER TEN

RORY

“Rory? We’re home,” Caden murmured, snapping me out of my thoughts as I turned my attention to the open car door, finding him standing there waiting for me. “C’mon. We can’t let anyone see you like that.”

I looked down at myself, holding my hands out in front of me to check all the blood. It was drying, the metallic smell filling the air around me.

“I killed your dad,” I said, wondering why the fuck he wasn’t screaming at me.

“I know. I hope it hurt him too,” he said flatly, offering me his hand. “Shower.”

“I’ve got to burn my clothes. And your car seat,” I mumbled, a nervous chuckle coming from him.

“Just the clothes. The car’s fine.”

“But—”

“I’ll get Skeet to hook me up with someone who can clean it. Right now, you’re sitting out in the open, covered in blood for everyone to see,” he said gently, taking my wrist and pulling me to my feet. I let him drag me into the house, my knife still tightly in my other hand, and he didn't force me to put it down as he got to my bedroom and locked us inside.

“You need to get in the shower. Can you do that? I need to delete the security footage of you looking like this.”
