“I didn’t even inject you with poison or you’d be dead, you drama queen. It was just a sedative.”
“Why? What did you fucking do to me?”
“I didn’t touch you, babe. I just wanted to see what you’d do and go through your things, that’s all. Which begs the question, why didn’t you tell Skeet a strange man broke in with a syringe and drugged you?”
I stayed silent, eyeing him as he moved closer and placed a knee on the bed.
“Get out or I’ll call him.”
“No, you won’t.” He crawled closer, stopping when he was right beside me, then the prick laid down to get comfortable as if we were buddies hanging out. “So, are you crazy in bed, or do you have blackmail over Skeet? It’s not like him to be so territorial over pussy.”
“You need to leave.”
“I will once Hunt is ready to go,” he answered, panic chilling my veins.
“Hunter’s here too?”
“Of course. He’s nosey,” he laughed, my gaze jerking to the door as Hunter walked in with a beer in hand.
“I must admit, you rich bastards buy good beer,” he said casually, taking a swig before smiling at me. “Morning. How’d you sleep?”
“You guys need to go. Skeet will be pissed if he finds out you’ve been here,” I snapped, grateful that I’d slept in shorts and a shirt so I could climb out of bed to get away from Marco.
He just rolled onto his back and got more comfortable, apparently letting his boss lead the conversation this time.
“We’re friends, not foe,” Hunter said as he tilted his head at me, raking his gaze over my body. “If you’re mad at your man for yesterday, feel free to use me to piss him off.”
“I’m not mad at him. He’s just busy and doesn’t need to give me attention all the time,” I scoffed, trying to reach for my phone, but Marco beat me to it, snatching it away. “Hey!”
“No need to call for help. We just want to talk,” he tsked, my heartbeat increasing as Hunter walked towards me.
I grabbed my knife from the bedside table and swiped it at him, making him laugh. “Whoa, babe. I’m not here to hurt you. I don’t make a habit of hurting girls.”
“You literally killed Lonnie yesterday,” I snapped as I backed up more until I hit the wall. “I won’t turn on Skeet and I don’t know anything about the Psychos’ business. Skeet and I just fuck sometimes, that’s it.”
“Doubtful. Skeet doesn’t give a fuck about the person attached to the pussy he’s fucking. It wasveryobvious that he gives a fuck about you,” Marco said as he sat up, dropping his legs over the edge of the bed to watch me.
“Why does it matter? If you think using me will be good revenge, think again. You can’t break me to hurt him,” I warned, holding the knife out in front of myself more as Hunter approached. “Ask your buddy, I’ll fucking stab you.”
“Who do you think patched him up?” he chuckled, assessing me. “I’ve been doing some digging. Josie Holloway isn’t your mom and was never married to your father, so why are you here? Your father’s Max Donovan, right? If he left?—”
“What can I say? Max is a piece of shit. I’m just staying here until I’m eighteen.”
“Max seems to piss people off as a hobby. He owes a lot of people money, including me,” Hunter said with a sigh. “What are we going to do about that?”
“Feel free to kill him,” I offered, and Marco snickered.
“That won’t get us our money back.”
“I don’t have any money. Like I said, I’m just staying here. If you thought you could use me to get the money from the Psychos instead, good luck. They hate me,” I scoffed, lowering the knife when Hunter put some distance between us.
“You intrigue me, that’s all. Thought we could be friends,” Hunter replied.
“Skeet doesn’t like you, which means I don’t like you. You can’t use me to get under his skin, so don’t waste your time.”
I went to walk past him, but he moved fast, knocking the knife out of my hand and yanking my arms behind my back, pulling me against him. I was practically getting a damn handful of his junk as he held both my wrists in one hand, the other sliding around my waist to rest on my stomach.
“That mouth of yours is going to get you in trouble one day,” he warned, his breath fanning across my neck as I tried to fight him. “I see why Skeet likes you.” The click of a gun had me freezing, cool metal pressing against my temple as Marco moved into view.
