“I’m trying to keep her safe.”
“How’s that working out for you?” he growled, and the little shit was lucky Rory was sleeping between us, or I would’ve punched him.
“If she listened to me, this wouldn’t be a problem.”
It was like she wanted to keep getting caught up in Slash’s bullshit. Running off with him had been reckless, and it baffled me that she kept trusting him not to hurt her.
I didn’t want to sound like an asshole, but hopefully today made her realize that Slash wasn’t her fucking friend.
“I’m not letting her go or bowing out,” Caden stated after a moment of silence as he got comfortable again, and my stupid heart beat a little faster as Rory rolled over and curled into me, her arm draping across my stomach as she mumbled something in her sleep.
“How about we make a deal? We stop fighting over her and work together to keep an eye on her. I was glad she had you today while I was busy, so thanks,” I said, and I was a little surprised when he didn’t flip out at me.
“You mean we share her? Do you even know how to do that?”
“Doyou?” I challenged, making him huff.
“I’ve been sharing her with the guys, I think I can manage.”
I doubted that. He’d spent most of that time throwing tantrums at them.
“We’ll see then. I’m going to sleep because I’m beat.”
I was too tired to even wake Rory with my dick for a quick round, and within minutes of Caden’s breathing evening out as he fell asleep, I did too.
CHAPTER ELEVEN
RORY
Waking up between Skeeter and Caden wasn’t at all what I expected when I opened my eyes, but I wasn’t mad about it. I studied Skeeter’s sleeping face, assessing the bruises that I assumed came from Slash after I’d left yesterday.
“You awake, baby?” Caden murmured from behind me, and I glanced over my shoulder to find him wide awake. I was a little surprised that he hadn’t left, especially since Skeeter was in the bed too.
“Hey. You’re still here?”
“Of course. I wasn’t going to bail on you,” he replied as he shuffled closer, pressing a kiss to my neck. I should’ve pulled away and told him that last night hadn’t fixed us, but I found myself leaning into his touch for comfort.
“Is it bad that I still don’t regret murdering someone?” I asked quietly, allowing him to roll me over to face him.
“No. He was a monster and deserved to die.”
“You think?”
“Iknow.” He cupped my cheek, his thumb brushing my skin affectionately as he held my gaze. “I meant what I said last night. I’ve got you. I won’t let anything happen to you from this, okay?”
I nodded, giving him a quick kiss before I could change my mind. “Thanks, Holloway.”
A rough hand slid over my waist from behind, and I tilted my head to the side as Skeeter trailed kisses from my shoulder down to my neck.
“Morning, baby girl.”
“Morning. What happened to your face?” I asked without rolling over, making him chuckle against my skin.
“Nothing for you to worry about. I just had words with Slash,” he replied sleepily, his teeth nipping my neck almost playfully. “No more running off with him. I won’t tell you again. Clear?”
“Clear,” I answered breathlessly as he snaked a hand around the front of me and dipped it between my legs. “Skeet?—”
“I gave you time to deal with your shit yesterday, but now it’s as if nothing happened, okay? Get your panties off.”
