“Yes, I totally agree on that,” Camila interjected.

“Now that we have that settled, I need to hurry and eat. I have a counseling session to prepare for,” Camila mentioned.

I snapped my fingers with a smack of my lips. “Dang! Me too!”

I stared down at the soup that was in front of me. That seemed to help settle my stomach. Melijah suggested it, and it worked. He said he had also done his research to find ways to alleviate his stomach pain. Whenever he learned something new, he’d tell me about it. The pills that were prescribed to me worked, but as soon as they wore off, I was back to feeling bad. What made it even worse was that I could only take one a day. I hated that.

I groanedas my eyes fluttered open. My body was sweaty and hot, and I had a foul taste in my mouth too. I had never felt as horrible as I do now. I needed Melijah right now. It felt like I was sick on top of being sick. How was that even possible? I reached for my phone, which was on the other pillow and saw messages from Melijah. My eyes ballooned as I read through the messages. Since that argument I had with my friends about him, I hadn’t talked to him.

Melijah:

Wassup? I’m checking in to make sure you’re good.

Did you go to sleep early or something? I tried calling, but I got no answer.

Sure enough, he had called three times. I closed my eyes and dropped my head. I read his last message.

Melijah:

I’ll try reaching back out tomorrow.

I immediately felt bad. He was obviously worried, and I didn’t want him to feel that way, so I called him back quickly. I went back to my call log and tapped his name. The phone rang, and I dropped my head back on the pillow.

“Yo, wassup? You good? I’ve been calling and texting all night. You’re lucky I don’t know where you stay, or I’d show up.”

I smiled weakly. “You’re being dramatic. You only called three times and left three texts,” I croaked and coughed. “I’m not feeling too good. When I got home from work, I crashed.”

“Aww, poor baby. Do you want me to come take care of you?”

Those were the sweetest words I had ever heard.

“Please.”

“Send me your address, and Daddy will be on the way.”

I cheesed hella hard when he called himself daddy. “I’m not about to play with you, Lijah.” I’m not even gonna lie. I liked that a little too much. He had never said anything like that before, and I ate it up.

He laughed. “You know you like it. It sounds like you have a cold, so I’ll go by the store too.”

I coughed again. “Okay. If I fall back to sleep by the time you get here, the key will be under the mat.”

“Gotcha. I’ll see you later.”

Once I hung up the phone, I sent him my address and laid my head back on my pillow. I felt extra drowsy, so sleep came quickly as my eyes fluttered closed.

My eyes fluttered when I got a sense that someone was in my house. I sat up in the bed and rubbed my eyes, realizing it probably was Melijah, but I needed to make sure. I threw the covers off my legs and got out of bed. Just as I reached for my robe to slip it on, my bedroom door was pushed open. A figure slowly stepped in, causing a smile to spread on my face. Melijah had a hesitant look on his face when he fully stepped inside the room.

“Here you are. It took me a minute to find the room you were in. I brought you some soup.” He held up a container filled with liquid. He also had a bag in his other hand.

I realized I had on a white wife beater and was bare underneath it, so I put the robe on and tied it. Melijah was dressed as if he didn’t have to work today. He wore a black tee with a pair of black basketball shorts and Nike slides on his feet.

He frowned. “What are you doing out of bed?”

“I was slipping on my robe, but you came in too fast.”

He scoffed with a smile, setting the container and bag on the end table. “Man, nah. I went from one end of the hallway to the other, moving slowly.”

I chuckled. “I’m sorry. I should’ve given you directions to get to my room.”
