I shook my head. “Like I said, plain.”
I had gotten cookies and cream with whipped cream.
“I got ya’ plain.”
I shrugged. “I’m just telling it like it is.”
“Umhm. I see you like all that mixed-up stuff on yours. Then you added whipped cream. That’s too much.”
“Ehh... Maybe it is or not, but I like it.”
He scoffed with a shake of his head. “If you say so.”
We ate in silence for a while.
“What are you planning to do when you get back home?” Melijah asked.
I shrugged. “I don’t really have anything planned. Probably just a nap or I’ll read or watch movies.”
“Oh yeah? A nap would be lovely. What type of movies do you like?”
“I’m a comedy or horror type of girlie.”
“Word? You look like you hide your face a lot when you’re watching horror movies,” he teased, chuckling.
I mugged him. “So! There is nothing wrong with that.”
“Scary ass.”
I waved him off. “Whatever. What about you?”
“Like you, I like comedy, but I also like action and thriller movies.”
“I bet you’d be like a detective trying to solve who did it.”
He smiled. “Damn right. Sometimes, I get it right too.”
We shared another laugh.
“Maybe one day soon, we can have a movie night.”
I beamed. “I’d like that. Please bring lots of popcorn.”
He lifted an eyebrow. “You like popcorn?”
I nodded. “I do. We go together real bad.”
Melijah chuckled with a shake of his head. “Word. I’ll keep that in mind.”
After we finished our ice cream, we chilled, just talking to each other. It was a vibe. Melijah’s cell phone rang, so he pulled it out of his pocket to check who was calling.
“It’s my pops calling. Excuse me real quick.”
While Melijah went to take the call from his father, I checked my notifications but saw nothing, so I set the phone on the table and went to throw away our trash. When I came back, he was there. He had an apologetic look on his face.
“I hate to cut this short, but my pops wants me to do something for him.”
I waved him off. “It’s all good. I enjoyed my time with you.”
