I squealed as Melijah yelled out, pumping his fists in the air.

“Woo hoo!” he yelled again, causing me to giggle. He was too much.

Tears of joy streamed down my face. My heart burst with happiness at the news I had received. For the first time in a long time, I was getting something I wanted. I couldn’t wait to shop for my baby boy. Melijah lowered himself to my level and smashed his lips onto mine. I kissed him back with everything I had inside of me.

“We’re getting our baby boy,” he mumbled against my lips.

I nodded. “We are.”

He wiped at my tears and kissed the rest away. He stepped back and let the technician clean my stomach off before pullingme off the chair and into his arms. I wrapped my arms around his neck. It was like we were the only two people in the room.

“I’m going to do all I can to be there for y’all,” he whispered in my ear.

Tears welled in my eyes again. “You’re already there for us. From the beginning, you were there.”

Melijah nodded and buried his face in my neck. “I know, but this shit is locked in forever.”

After the technician congratulated us again, we were free to go. Damn, I didn’t want to be away from him, especially with the news we just received. Not to mention, we needed to discuss what he said in the ultrasound room. Should I even mention it now, or just wait it out?

When we returned to Melijah’s car, we both stayed quiet.

“I’m going to take you to work, and when you get off, I’ll be there to pick you up.”

I nodded. “Okay, that’s fine. Remember, I’m getting off at three thirty.”

“Yeah, I remembered.”

On the way to my job, the silence continued. Truthfully, I needed it to process my thoughts. It was no secret I wanted to be in this man’s life.

Once Melijah dropped me off at work, he laid a kiss on me so good that I wanted to say damn it all. He knew what the hell he did because of the way he smirked at me. Then had the nerve to tell me to have a good day. I wanted to bang him in the head.

While at work, I counted down the hours until I was with him again. Soon enough, it was finally time. I almost ran out of the building and into Melijah’s arms. He had them outstretched too. With a smile on my face, I went to him and grasped his face in my hands. Pulling his face down to me, I kissed his lips. When we pulled apart, he pecked my lips again.

“C’mon. I have some chicken wings for you in the car too.”

He didn’t know how much happier he’d just made me. “Good, because I’m hungry again. During the meetings, I only had two bagels.”

He opened the passenger side door for me, and I slid in, putting on my seatbelt. I reached for the white container and opened the box. My mouth watered as I eyed the saucy chicken wings with fries.

“Where’d you get these from?” I asked when he got back in the car.

He put the car in reverse and backed out of the parking spot.

“Skylar’s. She cooked wings, and I knew I’d be picking you up soon, so I told her to let me get a to-go box for you.”

“Aww, thanks. Where are we headed?”

He glanced over at me as he drove into traffic. “Are you ready to go home?”

“No,” I blurted out all too quickly. “I’d rather go to your apartment.”

He chuckled. “Word. We’ll hang out there then. It’s too cold to do anything else.”

Melijah wasn’t telling me anything I didn’t already know. More than likely, we’d probably take a nap or just watch movies. No matter what we did, I didn’t mind as long as I was with him.

“Can we go by the store and get popcorn?” I reached for a wing and took a bite out of it.

“Yeah, we can. Also, while we’re in there, we can find some cards or something. I don’t have many chill things in my apartment.”
