Slowly, I lifted my head and wiped my eyes. I didn’t look directly at her.
“Hmm?” I couldn’t find the words to talk.
“I’ll give you time to digest the news you have received. You can book another appointment at the front desk.”
I nodded, still unable to find the words to open my mouth to talk. I wouldn’t be booking a damn thing right now. It felt like it was too soon, and this was something I wanted to process. There was something I had to do before I went to work. It couldn’t wait. I just hoped Skylar could help me.
When the nurse left the small room, I also got up to leave. I had no reason to stick around when I had business to tend to. I rushed to my truck and got in. Camila and Jada would soon betexting me to find out what the holdup was, but I’d text them and give them an explanation soon.
From the medical center to Skylar’s house, it took at least ten minutes. I blasted the AC but kept the radio off. The sun beamed, causing me to squint my eyes. I should’ve brought my sunglasses. That sun would blind someone if it wanted to. Cars drove so slowly in front of me that I was happy when I pulled in front of the small, dark green and white house. I wasted no time, turning my car off and stepping out of it, closing the door behind me.
With a deep sigh, I strolled to the house and climbed stairs to the porch to knock on the door. I heard her footsteps coming toward the door.
Skylar opened it with her eyes wide. “Elianna, what’s wrong?” she asked in a concerned tone.
I dropped my head to my chest. “Can I come in?”
She moved aside to let me in, and I peered around, happy to see her boyfriend wasn’t here.
I loved the style of her house. It was decorated in a traditional style, featuring gray, black, and green that matched the exterior of her home. She had pictures hanging on the wall with other wall decorations.
“Girl, you’re scaring me. What’s going on?”
I took a seat on her couch and dropped my head. “I’m pregnant.”
She gasped so loud she coughed. “Girl, I didn’t know you were seeing anyone.”
I snapped. “I’m not. It happened the night of your party.”
“Oh, girl! Wait. You were with Lijah that whole night. Oooh.” She gasped again and took a seat next to me. “What are you going to do?”
I shrugged because I didn’t have a clue. “It’s not something I have to think about right away, right?” A tear slipped out of my eye.
She shook her head. “It’s not, but will you let him know?”
I laughed bitterly. “Yes. That’s why I’m here. I need your help to get in contact with him.”
She got up from the couch. “I can get his number from Denver.”
Denver was Skylar’s boyfriend. She picked up her phone from the kitchen counter, which was attached to the living room. She typed on the screen a few times before she dropped her arms and came back to the couch.
“Okay.” I blew air out of my mouth. “Gosh, I don’t know what to do.” If I couldn’t admit that to anyone else, I knew I could to her. She’s always had my best interest at heart.
“You just have to tackle it like you do everything else and not let anyone get in your way. Plus, don’t worry about what others say about you. That’s your problem,” she voiced.
I rolled my eyes, not trying to hear her preach to me. She’d go on and on, and then we’d get into an argument.
“Okay, Skylar. I’m not trying to argue with you. I need to talk to him now. Can he meet me here?”
“Sure. He can. He and Denver are best friends.” She lifted her phone to peer at it. “I got his number. I’ll call and let him know to come here. Now, right?”
I nodded slowly.
While Skylar made the call, I sat in silence. What would he think when I told him I was pregnant? Would he believe I was pregnant by him? We were strangers to each other, so it was achance that he’d think the baby wasn’t his. I didn’t know what to do in this situation. Then it was with a man I didn’t know.
I just went out to have a good time and ended up having sex — the most amazing sex I had ever had in my life. My mind always seemed to go back to the sex I had with him. Then he knocked the cobwebs out from between my legs. He knew how to work that thang that hung between his legs. I shivered at the thought of it.
“Elianna!” Skylar called my name and clapped her hands in my face.
