“Jesus. You aren’t even listening to me. Did you hear what Isaid?”
Not a damn thing. “The line was bad.” He replied. It was a nicesave.
“Scott, just take care of yourself and Abi. Someone wants to use the phone, so I have to go. Call me a littlelater.”
“Sure.” He was enjoying speaking to her, but he wanted to get back toAbi.
He placed his phone back in his pocket and walked back over to her. She focused on him and leaned her behind into the side of the car, resting againstit.
As soon as he cast his eyes over her again, he forgot everything he just cautioned himself about just moments ago. Her cheeks turned a warm rose color when she saw the way he was looking at her, and her eyes locked with his as he stopped besideher.
“Babydoll.” He gave her a small smile trying to put a hold on the desire that brewed forher.
“Hey.”
Scott couldn’t help it, he reached out and touched the side of her face. She didn’t protest that, and he wondered what else she’dallow.
It wasn’t in his nature to show any form of restraint, and she was making it ten times harder with the way shelooked.
“Looks like you and I are stuck together until tomorrow.” He releasedher.
“I figured.” Her soft voice reached into his soul and he was reminded of the gentle shy girl she was when he first mether.
“Are you okay?” Scottasked.
“I’m fine.” Her eyes never left his, and he wondered if she, too, could feel that magnetism betweenthem.
“So, what are we going to do with all this time on our hands? Two hours until we get pickedup.”
They’d get taken to Lake Tahoe and he hoped like hell they’d be able to get into ahotel.
“I don’t know. Do you have anysuggestions?”
She should have known better than to ask him that with his sex-crazed mind that he knew she was used to. He smiled down at her petiteframe.
“Well, we could birdwatch, or try to check the trajectory of the wind,” hejoked.
She laughed and ran her hands through herhair.
“That sounds really boring. I’m sure you can come up with something better thanthat.”
If she was trying to tease him and tempt him, it was working. “Oh, I can. We could have the wild sex we used tohave.”
She grimaced and smacked him in his chest. “You’re crazy, you know that?” Shelaughed.
Truthfully, he initially aimed the suggestion as a joke, just to see her cringe, but, as soon as he said it, it sounded like the best idea in theworld. “
Why? I saw you watching me. I could put you out of your misery.” She was never a watcher, but it was funny to see herreaction.
She laughed again. “When did you see me watching you, Scott? You’re so full ofyourself.”
He reached for her again, but she smacked his hands awayplayfully.
“It’s not like we don’t know each other,” hesaid.
“And we’ve been broken up foryears.”
“Have we?” he teased. “Come on, Abi, it’s perfect. We’re here for Margo’s wedding. We live in different states. You live on the other side of the country. I’m certain we could just pretend we didn’t break up for a day… or so.” Best to cover himself in case she magically agreed and he’d want heragain.
