Back when her father told him he should leave her alone, and that the last thing he wanted was for his baby girl to end up with a loser like Brad, thathurt.
But not as much as it did now. The wound that Jim unleashed on him years ago had only festered and grew into something that cut a hole in Brad’s soul. Just because he’d had changed and reformed his ways didn’t mean he wasn’t still a loser, and he’d broken thatpromise.
Broken it, and disrespected Jim in every way possible just with last nightalone.
He let her go and stood up, towering her petite frame with hisheight.
“Brad, why are you saying that?” Another tear ran down hercheek.
"I wasn't thinking last night. I wasn't thinking straight, or atall."
"Iwasthinking," she declared. "I knew exactly what I was doing. You didtoo."
"No.” he shook his head. “You mustn't go down this path Trina. I promised your father I would leave you alone. He didn’t want me to be withyou.”
"Brad, my father is dead. And no matter what he thought he had no right to send you away fromme."
He hated to upset her but he couldn’t think straighthimself.
"I...I have togo.”
"Why?" shebreathed.
"I just haveto."
The hurt that filled her eyes made him feel worse, and torn in so many ways. And tormented. He wanted her, wanted to be with her. Still felt the same way as he always did, but his mind was too clouded right now to talk about how hefelt.
Besides, talking would lead to explaining everything in its entirety and that would just open up more wounds for themboth.
Before she could say anything else, he walkedaway.

Trina was foolingherself if she thought she could ignore the strength of her feelings for Brad that would always exist within her heart, mind, and soul. She was fooling herself if she thought she could deny it and any attempt to remind herself that they weren't a coupleanymore.
Last night had changed everything and awakened something within her that she thought had died. She’d felt her blood coursing through her veins zinging vitality throughout her body. It was divine ecstasy that made her realize that all these years she kept a part of him withher.
Her whole body had ignited from the first moment Brad kissed her. It was like a magical blast of desire, and passion that was out of this world. It reminded her that she'd only ever felt that way when she was with him, and there was a very strong chance that she only ever would. There wouldn’t be anyone else forher.
That hole she felt within her heart sealed up the minute he touched her and made her feel like she was eighteen again. When she thought she had everything because she hadhim.
Trina watched Brad walk away fromher.
Her skin still burned from the anxiety and rush of desperation she felt to keep him here. She slumped against the wall and continued to stare long after she’d heard him go down the stairs, and out the frontdoor.
She had to admit, she felt mad at him, but not for walking away. She felt mad because she couldn’t believe he felt he had to keep that stupid promise to herfather.
It shouldn’t be about her father anymore. Her father had done what he felt was best, screwed with them both and messed with their lives. However, they’d talked, and she felt that they’d crossed that bridge. She thought that last night meant they’d moved past the past, but she was wrong. It wouldn’t have mattered if she didn’t feel anything for him, but God she still lovedBrad.
She’d heard of this happening. Of people being apart for years and just stepping back into the shoes of love they used to wear as if nothing had happened. That was what it felt like. Trina just never thought it would happen toher.
Maybe she was seeing too much into it and should just put it down to a night of really great sex, but then that was just it that wasn’t justsex.
She knew the difference. What they did was more than that, so much more. It was outside of some hook up for old times sake, outside of love. It was what happened when two people who loved each other were reunited after years of beingapart.
That’s what it was for her, and she felt it was the same for Brad. That was why his behavior this morning wasquestionable.
Maybe there was more to it than what he’dsaid.
