Chapter 14
Wren
* * *
Ifelt like a completely new woman.
It was as if I’d been placed in some rejuvenation chamber and given a new life.
We’d been in Paris for four days now and I’d had the time of my life. It was more than a getaway; it was an adventure. A whole life experience I knew I would cherish forever.
I woke up super late today, well after midday.
When I eventually got dressed AJ took me out onto the terrace where I was greeted with a bunch of red long stemmed Elizabeth roses.
“AJ you are too much.” I smiled as he handed them to me but tears stung the backs of my eyes. Gratitude washed over me and awe at all this man had done.
“No. This was part of the vision right. Except they’re in a bunch.” He beamed at me.
I recalled what I said to Stella when I described this getaway.
I talked about getting a single red rose every day. That was what he meant. He really was listening.
“This means a lot to me.”
“I know. Come here.” He took the roses set them on the table then ushered me over to the bench to sit.
I sat next to him.
“Is Paris as good as what you imagined?” His eyes searched mine.
“AJ, really? Is that a question I’m supposed to answer?”
“I want to know.” While there was a twinkle in his eyes. His face denoted a edge of seriousness that caught my attention.
“It is. It really is. I never imagined having this much fun. And I don’t think I would have enjoyed it more with anyone else.” I brushed the side of his face and he held me tighter.
“You too Wren.”
“Thank you, although I’m sure you’ve had better times here. Not doing tourist stuff.”
He’d told me how often he and his family were here. I’d bet most of this trip had to be a drag for him with me walking around with stars in my eyes loving everything, and getting excited about what he was used to.
“The exciting part was me showing it to you and seeing your face after.”
What a nice thing to say. “I can’t believe you did this for me.”
“I had ulterior motives.” He grinned.
“Those ulterior motives could have been accomplished in Chicago.”
“Wren, I’m going to want you wherever you are in this world. Paris or Chicago.”
I held his gaze. “Me too, for you.”
The gentle evening breeze lifted the ends of my ponytail and flicked the ends about us. AJ caught it and twirled the ends around his fingers. He looked down at it, but when his gaze returned to mine I noticed a cautious look in his eyes.
“What’s up? You look like you’re thinking something.”
