He noticed and planted a kiss on my forehead. “You’re thinking about everything you left in Chicago, and that’s my fault.”

“No, it’s…” If only he knew how bad things were. I didn’t want to tell him though. Best not to. I didn’t want him thinking I was asking for help. I would never do something like that.

“Sweet Wren. Remember, screw the bills and the responsibilities. You’re here with me and I told you things will be fine.”

I had to laugh. “Of course, things will all be fine.” I played along.

“That’s the spirit.”

“I want to go, but it’s crazier than me being here.”

“Why baby?”

“It just is.”

“Okay, let’s do this. We talk about it on our last day here. See what you think then. I know you’ll say yes.” A cocky smile now danced on his lips. Of course it would because what woman in her right mind would say no to this man.

“You are too much Mr. and a little over confident.”

“I’m confident because, you won’t want me to get in trouble with my dad. And, if I go away for God knows how long you’ll miss me too much.”

I didn’t think about that part. “How long will you be in Rome?”

“Who knows baby, “ he tilted my jaw up to him. “Who knows? Could be a week, or two, or more. And it’s a vineyard. My phone may not work and I wouldn’t be able to call you. Then I would just perish from not being able to see or hear you.”

This guy was a natural charmer. I started to laugh and couldn’t stop.

“Oh, AJ.” I pressed my hands against the hard walls of his chest. He nuzzled his face into the crook of my neck and kissed the underside of my ear.

“Wren.” He lifted his head and gazed at me. “Eiffel tower today, we can’t stay in this house for the whole trip. As much as I want you I won’t be selfish. Let me show you Paris and spoil you.”

Back to the dream.

“Thank you.”

“No, no, thank you mon belle.” He lifted my hands up to his lips and kissed it.

My heart fluttered. Talk about life and reality. It was going to be hard to come out of this dream world. Very hard.

And I didn’t want to.

Today was truly amazing.

We began with the Louvre, where I saw the Mona Lisa and other amazing paintings and artifacts.

Then we headed to the Eiffel Tower.

It looked just like it did on the post cards and films I’d seen.

The wrought-iron lattice tower on the Champs de Mars was exactly as the images and films depicted. No camera tricks, no added touches for effect.

The tower stood in all it’s glory and beauty for all to see. For me the highlight of Paris.

We explored all levels, looked at all the history and ended our tour of the tower by dining at Le Jules Vernes. That was where we were supposed to go last night. Since it was five when we ate it wasn’t dark enough to get the see the beautiful city lights, but AJ promised we’d come back another night.

We spent the rest of the afternoon walking and talking. We walked the whole length of the Champs-Élysées stopping at the Place de la Concorde and the Place Charles de Gaulle, where I marveled at the Arc de Triomphe.
