It was a realization that snapped to my mind quickly when I saw that I couldn’t save her.
And as I risked looking over at her I felt it even more, and she knew it.
“All, so, interesting.” The queen laughed.
My gaze darted back to her.
The queen may have looked like a teenage girl, but she was far from it. Her age itself was as old as time. She just didn’t age.
She sat on her throne with two elks on either side of her and her guards, two powerful looking warriors with sharp pointed ears. White blond hair like Neo’s flowed from their heads and their faces were like angels in beauty.
All elves looked that way. The men and women. It was because they got their magic from the stars and light.
“What is interesting?” I balked.
“The two creatures in my new collection are not only rare and precious, and very useful to me, but they’re also in love.”
Even from here, I could see Alyssa blushing and I could feel the conflict of emotion that washed over her mind.
She was scared, but I could feel all that she felt for me.
Love.
It was all over her, surrounding her and filling her.
It was new to me.
I’d never been with a woman who’d felt that way about me before. The same way that I’d never been in love, not until now.
“Let us go. My Lady, you know what is at stake if I don’t get Alyssa to the Shadowlands. How about you either help us or allow us to leave and do what we need to do. We’ll even come back, and we can finish this little fiasco.”
I hated that I had to call herMy Lady.
“You think I’m stupid, tainted one?” she laughed. “You come to my realm uninvited and defile my forest with your traipses, then to make matters worse you mate in my realm for all to see.”
“Like fuck, we did our best with the little privacy we had.”
My reply irked her as I intended.
“Insolent fool, do you know how serious this is?”
“I don’t care. What I care about is that you’re making us waste time. everything about this is wrong and you know it. The necromancer and Balmora will come here and take her. You think you stand a chance against either of them?”
Something in her eyes flickered. I seriously hoped it meant she was thinking about it.
I didn’t have the power to read someone like her. Her magic was far too powerful and she’d managed to block me out.
“Answer me.” I demanded. “If you’re a match for the pair of them then fantastic. I’ll shut right the hell up.”
She frowned, because she knew I was right.
“Okay, tainted one. I’ll tell you what,” she laughed an evil sort of laugh that infuriated me even more than I already was. “How about a little game?”
“Do we look like we want to play a fucking game?”
“Not so much, but you will play. If you play, I will open the portal to the Shadowlands.”
“You can do that?”
