This was my chance. My chance to step up and show my father that I could be the business partner my brother was.

I was going beyond my desire for that tonight when I saw Taylor. I’d recognized her and seen her looking like she was ready to fall off that barstool. In truth, what I should have done was left her alone because now I was stuck with the billionaire princess.

I glanced across to her in the passenger seat of my car. She’d fallen asleep within two minutes of getting in.

Before she’d drifted off, I managed to get out of her that she lived on 240 Rivera Drive. That was about twenty minutes away. While I was glad that I would get the chance to get rid of her, looking at her now told me the easy part was getting her to come with me.

Come with me… Jesus.

I couldn’t leave her on the road, and I didn’t have the heart to send her off in a taxi. Not in that state. So here I was, acting like the gentleman I wasn’t by dropping her home and doing whatever nightmarish thing I had to do before the night was over.

Do you want to sleep with me?

Those words would never leave my damn mind. Not even if I wanted to forget, could I forget the way she looked at me as she asked the question. Those champagne-colored eyes lulled me to stare, and her pouty red lips made me think of what else that mouth of hers would be good for.

Sex was already on my mind, and she had to go and cement it right in there by asking a question I’d never been asked before.

As she’d babbled on about ax murderers and cheaters, I wondered who the fuck could have cheated on her.

She shuffled in the seat and rolled her head from side to side, making her hair messier. The kind of messy I thought it would look like after a wild night in my bed. Her little mini skirt rode up her thighs as she shuffled again, giving me a good view of her golden thighs.

I glanced at the GPS dashboard and thanked God when I saw I was a minute away from my destination.

A minute which came quickly. I pulled up outside a beautiful two-story house surrounded by fan palm trees. In the night light, it reminded me of somewhere exotic in the Mediterranean. Most of the houses around here had that look, but I could tell additional work had gone into her place.

I drove up the long drive and parked outside the front door.

When she’d dropped her purse earlier, I’d gotten her keys, which I frowned at when I saw that not only had the woman labelled them house keys, but she also put her address on the little tag.

I didn’t know how women like her had lived so long in the world and did things like that.

Dangerous things. She was right; I could have been an ax murderer or one of those strange men who hung around bars waiting for women to get drunk so I could take advantage.

I jumped out of the car and opened her side to help her out.

“Taylor,” I said, tapping her arm. That was the first time I’d referred to her by name.

Her eyes fluttered open, and she gave me a weirdly assessing look, like she was trying to figure me out.

“You’re home now.” I smiled.

“It’s fine. I’ll just stay here.” She closed her eyes and turned her back to me, dismissing me.

Great… So, how was I supposed to get her out of the car?

I brought my hand to my head and bit the inside of my lip. There was only one way to do this.

I unhooked the seat belt, slipped my arm under her legs and around her waist, then lifted her out.

She curled up against me and made a soft cooing sound the way a child would when they were contented in their dreams. My little three-year-old nephew did that all the time.

I made my way up the steps and reached for the keys in my pocket. However, I didn’t need them because the flaming door was unlocked. I didn’t know if that was her doing or if someone had broken in. Neither would have surprised me.

I went inside with her and set her down on the sofa in the living room, where she stirred again and looked at me.

“Who are you?” she asked groggily.

“No one. It’s just a dream.” That was the first words that came to my mind and fell from my lips. “I’m going to check out the place and make sure you’re safe.” What I should be doing was running right back through the door, but no, I was still playing the gentleman.
