“Yes.” That was it, short and brief for effect. I stepped back to go, but he caught my arm and pulled me back as if we were in some sort of mating dance.

“Is that all you have for me, Abby Cartwright?”

I smiled when he tapped his cheek for a kiss. I, however, had a better idea.

I crooked my finger, beckoning him closer, and as he came, I drew his face to mine and pressed my lips to his, covering his mouth.

Fire…

There it was again. Fire that was so hot it sent a shiver of desire racing through every nerve in my body.

He cupped my face and intensified the kiss right there in front of everyone who was watching. That would have been a lot of people.

We were kissing, and now they all knew he was mine.

When we pulled apart, he kept hold of my arm and gave me a wolfish grin.

“The club tomorrow night at eight. Meet me there.” He smirked with the cool, sexy edge, then looked me over again with satisfaction. “Wear something like this.”

“I will.”

I backed away with a smile, loving the feel of his eyes on me as I walked away.

It was new and exciting.

New and exciting with sexual anticipation. I’d heard people say they had to put a lot of work into making a baby. I couldn’t wait to get started.

Chapter 10

Abby

* * *

7.45 p.m.

My mind was a mixture of excitement and anxiety.

I stood by the bar at The Shade Room, the club Gilly and I always went to at least once a week.

I’d been on edge all day, counting down the hours to when it was time for me to get ready, then dragging Mia along with me so she could be here for this part. I’d planned to get here early and wait. I’d chosen a glass of orange juice. None of the hard stuff, I definitely wouldn’t be having that for a while after the weekend.

Mia was having a good time watching everyone dancing and swaying to the hip rhythm.

The plan was for her to wait with me then join her friends who were already here.

“You look nervous, Abby,” Mia said, bumping her shoulder into mine.

“I am. I’m freaking nervous because I don’t know what’s going to happen or what I should do first,” I bubbled, talking so fast I nearly choked.

She laughed and sipped on her drink. “I’m excited for you. I have to say, Abby, the man is hot. Getting the full visual when we found you two in the kitchen was something I’m going to find hard to forget. Poor Vanessa.”

We both laughed at that because we had this sneaking suspicion amongst us that Vanessa was still a virgin. None of us had asked, and it wasn’t even that she’d said anything. It was her actions and reactions when she was around us and the subject of sex came up. She would go all red and weird. It was hilarious, and we always ripped into her and tried to shock her with our stories. The true ones and the made-up ones. Mia was the worst at that because I had to admit she was worse than me. Or had gotten worse than me.

She continued to laugh then frowned as she looked ahead.

“Ugh, guess who just walked in?” she asked.

I looked and saw Eric coming toward us. He was my least favorite person right now, but I suspected he liked Mia a lot more than she might think. She’d told me she’d seen him several times in the last week, and that was a rare thing.
