I marveled at how easy it was to talk to her.

“I understand. I do. Thanks for sharing that with me. You….” She narrowed her eyes at me. “You’re different.”

“Different?” I knew exactly what she meant but wanted to tease it out of her. “How?”

She smiled at me. “You devil, you know what I mean. You do all this amazing stuff, and this is who you are, but you show a different face to the world.”

“Like high school?”

“Yes.” She blinked and tensed.

“I was an ass in high school. I hated it. I hated life. I hated how my father was, and I know there was a lot I did that was unforgivable. Most of all I hated the way I treated you.”

“It’s in the past.”

It was. But it wasn’t forgotten. Not at all. I wondered what kind of life I could have had if I wasn’t the way I was. Or if I’d been with her.

I had her now, and it was …

Unreal.

She was the first woman I’d been with who left me wanting more. Wanting more and thinking of all the things I could do to keep her with me.

That meant something, and it was almost scary.

I’d never lost control of my emotions the way I did when I was with her.

It was such a shame that I’d have so much to change about myself if I truly wanted that.

The angel and the devil.

The problem in that scenario was exactly that. The angel would always be the angel, and the devil the devil.

Chapter 16

The kiss turnedinto the kind of kiss that would lead to the bedroom.

Except neither of our bedrooms were in close proximity.

We were in my office, and as wild as it was, I didn’t think I could risk going in the closet with him like last time, or being as daring as when he’d stripped me naked right in the office and we’d had sex on my desk.

I still died a thousand deaths every time I remembered because the door had been unlocked and it was in the middle of the day, just like now.

Anyone could have walked in.

Anyone.

Thank goodness no one really ever needed me like they did the others. The good thing about my work was, the staff here reached me by email.

It was my family that I’d worried about; they had a habit of just opening the door and coming in.

“Cole.” I tried to back out of his arms, but he caught me again for another kiss.

He was supposed to be at the stadium half an hour ago. He’d dropped by to see me, and the minute I saw that lascivious glint in his eyes, I knew he’d come here to try to seduce me. It was because I didn’t stay at his place last night.
